Abstract: An electro-optical module assembly is provided that includes a flexible substrate having a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface, wherein the flexible substrate contains an opening located therein that extends from the first surface to the second surface. An optical component is located on the second surface of the flexible substrate and is positioned to have a surface exposed by the opening. At least one electronic component is located on a first portion of the first surface of the flexible substrate, and at least one micro-energy source is located on a second portion of the first surface of the flexible substrate.

Abstract: An electronic device having a circuit board and a battery is disclosed. The circuit board may include a through hole and an electrical pad surrounding the through hole. In order to electrically couple the circuit board to the battery, and in particular, an electrode of the battery, a tab (or plaque) is placed between the electrical pad and the electrode. The tab electrically couples with the electrical pad by a soldering operation. To couple (electrically and mechanically) the tab with the electrode, a welding operation is used. The welding operation may include a laser weld providing thermal energy through a laser beam. In this regard, the laser beam passes through the through hole, thereby (partially) melting the tab and forming a weld between the tab and the electrode. Accordingly, the tab covers the through hole such that the tab is positioned to receive the laser beam.

Abstract: Described herein are multi-functional composite materials containing energy storage assemblies that can be significantly resistant to tension/compression stress. The energy storage assemblies can contain at least one energy storage layer that contains an insulating layer having a plurality of openings arranged in a spaced apart manner, and a plurality of energy storage devices, each energy storage device being contained within one of the openings. The energy storage devices can be electrically connected to one another. The energy storage layer can contain a support material upon which electrical connections are formed. One or more energy storage layers can be disposed between two or more stress carrying layers to form an energy storage assembly that can have significant resistance to tension/compression stress. Energy storage devices suitable for use in the energy storage assemblies can include, for example, batteries, capacitors and/or supercapacitors. Methods for producing the energy storage assemblies are also described.

Abstract: A method of making a printed wiring board (“PWB”) is disclosed. The PWB may be made by forming openings in a substrate. The substrate may be a dielectric substrate. The dielectric substrate may be at least partially uncured. A conductive sheet may be placed on one or both sides of the substrate to cover the openings. The substrate may be cured. The conductive sheet(s) may then be etched to form conductive tabs within the openings. The conductive tabs are free of dielectric material on both sides of the conductive tab. The conductive tabs may then be coupled to terminals of electrochemical cells to form a circuit as desired.

Abstract: In a high frequency signal line, a first signal line extends along a first dielectric element assembly, a first reference ground conductor extends along the first signal line, a second signal line is provided in or on the second dielectric element assembly and extends along the second dielectric element assembly, a second reference ground conductor is provided in or on the second dielectric element assembly and extends along the second signal line. A portion of a bottom surface at an end of the first dielectric element assembly and a portion of the top surface at an end of the second dielectric element assembly are joined together such that a joint portion of the first and second dielectric element assemblies includes a corner. The second signal line and the first signal line are electrically coupled together. The first and second reference ground conductors are electrically coupled together.
