Abstract: Diurethane (meth)acrylate-silane precursor compounds prepared by reacting a primary or secondary aminosilane with a cyclic carbonate to yield a hydroxylalkylene-carbamoylalkylene-alkoxysilanes (referred to as a “hydroxylcarbamoylsilane”), which is reacted with a (meth)acrylated material having isocyanate functionality, either neat or in solvent, and optionally with a catalyst, such as a tin compound. Also described are articles including a substrate, a base (co)polymer layer on a major surface of the substrate, an oxide layer on the base (co)polymer layer; and a protective (co)polymer layer on the oxide layer, the protective (co)polymer layer including the reaction product of at least one diurethane (meth)acrylate-silane precursor compound. The substrate may be a (co)polymer film or an electronic device such as an organic light emitting device, electrophoretic light emitting device, liquid crystal display, thin film transistor, or combination thereof. Methods of making the diurethane (meth)acrylate-silane and their use in composite films and electronic devices are described.

Abstract: A light emitting device is provided which includes a printed board, light emitting elements, and a light-transmissive member. The light emitting elements are arranged in three or more rows, and mounted on the printed board. The light-transmissive member includes three or more semi-semi-cylindrical lens portions that are arranged side by side transversely to cover the three or more rows. The heights of the tops of the semi-cylindrical lens portions are substantially equal to each other. The semi-cylindrical lens portions include first semi-cylindrical lens portions which are arranged to cover at least the both end rows, and a second semi-cylindrical lens portion which is arranged on the interior sides relative to the first semi-cylindrical lens portions in the transverse direction. The radius of curvature of the second semi-cylindrical lens portion is smaller than the first semi-cylindrical lens portions.

Abstract: A method for providing electrically-conductive silver-containing metal in a thin film or one or more thin film patterns on a substrate. Electrically-conductive metallic silver is provided from a non-hydroxylic-solvent soluble silver complex represented by the following formula (I): (Ag+)a(L)b(P)c (I) wherein L represents an α-oxy carboxylate; P represents an oxime compound; a is 1 or 2; b is 1 or 2; and c is 1, 2, 3, or 4, provided that when a is 1, b is 1, and when a is 2, b is 2. A photosensitizer can also be present. The reducible silver ions in the photosensitive thin film or photosensitive thin film pattern can be photochemically converted to electrically-conductive metallic silver in the thin films or thin film patterns by irradiation with electromagnetic radiation having a wavelength within the range of at least 150 nm and up to and including 700 nm.

Abstract: We describe a new approach to fabricate polymeric materials with surface structures for applications as anti-reflective, anti-icing, superhydrophobic, superhydrophilic, de-wetting, and self-cleaning coatings. In some variations, a surface-textured layer comprises first microdomains and second microdomains each containing polymerized cross-linkable photomonomer, where the first microdomains have a higher average cross-link density than that of the second microdomains. The first microdomains and the second microdomains are in a peak-valley surface topology, providing surface texture with no filler particles. In some variations, a method to fabricate a surface-textured layer comprises: applying a cross-linkable photomonomer layer to a reflective substrate; exposing the photomonomer layer to a collimated light beam with no spatial variation, to initiate polymerization in first microdomains; and polymerizing other regions of the photomonomer layer to form second microdomains that are spatially separated from the first microdomains. The first microdomains have a higher average cross-link density compared to the second microdomains.

Abstract: Methods for treating panels are described that include coating a wood substrate with a polymeric solution, curing the coated wood substrate by subjecting the coated wood to ultraviolet radiation and causing the polymeric solution to crosslink to produce a fire-resistant veneer. Also described is a composite material comprising a wood substrate layer, and a UV-cured flame retardant coating the wood substrate layer, wherein the composite material has a Flame Spread Index values within 0 to 25 and a Smoke Developed Index of 450 or lower.

Abstract: The present invention provides a birefringent lens material for a stereoscopic image display, the birefringent lens material containing two or more liquid crystal compounds each having at least one polymerizable functional group, a birefringent lens for a stereoscopic image display, the birefringent lens being formed by using the lens material, and a method for producing a birefringent lens for a stereoscopic image display using the lens material. The birefringent lens material for a stereoscopic image display and the birefringent lens for a stereoscopic image display of the present invention are good in terms of optical characteristics, durability, and productivity, in particular, productivity. The method for producing a birefringent lens for a stereoscopic image display of the present invention has good productivity.
