Abstract: A method of manufacturing a razor blade cutting edge, the method including: applying a single coating of a polymer material to the razor blade cutting edge to form a coated blade edge; selecting a temperature profile, where the temperature profile has a temperature and a time, and wherein the temperature profile is selected based on a composition of the razor blade cutting edge; heating the coated blade edge at the temperature and for the time indicated by the selected temperature profile to adhere the polymer material to the razor blade cutting edge; and optionally treating the coated blade edge with a solvent or a mechanical process to partially remove the coating.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for performing repair operations using an unmanned aerial vehicle. The methods are enabled by equipping the UAV with tools for rapidly repairing a large structure or object (e.g., an aircraft or a wind turbine blade) that is not easily accessible to maintenance personnel. In accordance with various embodiments disclosed below, the unmanned aerial vehicle may be equipped with an easily attachable/removable module that includes an additive repair tool. The additive repair tool is configured to add material to a body of material. For example, the additive repair tool may be configured to apply a sealant or other coating material in liquid form to a damage site on a surface of a structure or object (e.g., by spraying liquid or launching liquid-filled capsules onto the surface). In alternative embodiments, the additive repair tool is configured to adhere a tape to the damage site.

Abstract: A method for enhancing optical properties of sintered, zirconia ceramic bodies and zirconia ceramic dental restorations is provided. The porous or pre-sintered stage of a ceramic body is treated with two different yttrium-containing compositions and sintered, resulting in sintered ceramic bodies having enhanced optical properties. The enhanced optical properties may be substantially permanent, remaining for the useful life of the sintered ceramic body.

Abstract: A water-based hydrogel polymer coating and a method of application to natural rubber or other elastomeric latex products are provided. The water-based hydrogel polymer is mixed with a blend of at least one elastomeric material to provide a hydrogel polymer blend composition. The water-based hydrogel polymer blend composition is applied in a single application to an elastomeric article, such as gloves, without additional solvents in the polymer blend composition and without a separate acid or chemical priming step. The water-based hydrogel coating herein provides increased lubricity to facilitate improved wet and dry donning of the elastomeric article.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process for producing a porous polyurethane coatings, using a polyol ester as additives in an aqueous polymer dispersion, the process comprising the steps of a) providing a mixture comprising an aqueous polymer dispersion, a polyol ester, and an additive, b) foaming the mixture to give a homogeneous, fine-cell foam, c) adding at least one thickener to establish the desired viscosity of the wet foam, d) applying a coating of the foamed polymer dispersion to a suitable carrier, e) drying the coating. The invention further relates to a phosphorylated polyol ester.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is an aqueous, one-pack coating composition including a polymer, a crosslinking agent, a polymeric surface-active agent, and an organic rheology control agent. The total solids content of the coating composition is from 7.5-11.5 wt.-%; the viscosity at 23° C. is from 2000-12000 mPas at a shear rate of 0.1 s-1¬; the amount of the polymeric surface-active agent is from 0.5-25 wt.-% based on the total solids content of the coating composition; the amount of the organic rheology control agent is from 5-12 wt.-% based on the total solids content of the coating composition; and the coating composition does not contain platelet-shaped particulate material having a median particle size of 2 μm or more. Further disclosed herein are methods of producing a coating and applying the coating with a device producing a coating composition jet, and substrates coated by the methods.
