    Abstract: An encoder spectrograph is used to analyze radiation from one or more samples in various configurations. The radiation is analyzed by spatially modulating the radiation after it has been dispersed by wavelength or imaged along a line. Dual encoder spectrographs may be used to encode radiation using a single modulator. An encoder spectrograph may be used wherein the first optics comprises a diffraction grating that is optimized for an annular-shaped intercept between the dispersed image and the radiation filters on a modulator.

    Abstract: A method of enhancing spectral data such as a frequency, wavelength or mass spectrum comprises applying an inverse Fourier Transform to the data in the frequency, wavelength or mass spectrum, zero-filling and, optionally, apodizing that inverse transform data, and then applying a Fourier Transform to convert the inverse data back into the frequency, wavelength or mass domain. The resultant processed spectrum provides a more accurate indication of peak location, shape and height.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a spectrometer arrangement (10) comprising a spectrometer (14) for producing a spectrum of a first wavelength range of radiation from a radiation source on a detector (42). The inventive arrangement is characterised in that another spectrometer (12) comprising at least one other dispersing element (64) and another imaging optical element (60,66) is provided in order to produce a spectrum (68) of a second wavelength range of radiation, which is different from the first wavelength range, from a radiation source on the same detector (42). The spectra can be spatially or temporally separated on the detector.

    Abstract: A downhole fluid analysis system comprises an input light signal that is directed through a fluid sample housed in a sample cell. The input light signal may originate from a plurality of light sources. A light signal output from the sample cell is then routed to two or more spectrometers for measurement of the represented wavelengths in the output light signal. The output of the spectrometers is then compared to known values for hydrocarbons typically encountered downhole. This provides insight into the composition of the sample fluid. Additionally, the input light can be routed directly to the two or more spectrometers to be used in calibration of the system in the high temperature and noise environment downhole.

    Abstract: The invention describes an optical multiplexer for increasing optical data collection efficiency across at least two fields of view. The optical multiplexer includes a first optical path for operatively receiving optical data from a first field of view and at least one beam deflection system for operatively receiving optical data from at least a second field of view.
