Abstract:
An annular ceramic washer has inner and outer cylindrical surfaces, first and second annular surfaces, and a winding path thick film resistor located on the inner surface. Metal washers are preferably brazed to the end ring surfaces. The annular ceramic washer is useful in vacuum tube applications in establishing a voltage on a target utilizing the voltage of an electrode coupled to the winding path thick film resistor.
Abstract:
A multi-beam electron gun provides a plurality N of cathode assemblies comprising a cathode, anode, and focus electrode, each cathode assembly having a local cathode axis and also a central cathode point defined by the intersection of the local cathode axis with the emitting surface of the cathode. Each cathode is arranged with its central point positioned in a plane orthogonal to a device central axis, with each cathode central point an equal distance from the device axis and with an included angle of 360/N between each cathode central point. The local axis of each cathode has a cathode divergence angle with respect to the central axis which is set such that the diverging magnetic field from a solenoidal coil is less than 5 degrees with respect to the projection of the local cathode axis onto a cathode reference plane formed by the device axis and the central cathode point, and the local axis of each cathode is also set such that the angle formed between the cathode reference plane and the local cathode axis results in minimum spiraling in the path of the electron beams in a homogenous magnetic field region of the solenoidal field generator.

Abstract:
The invention describes a particle source in which energy selection occurs. The energy selection occurs by sending a beam of electrically charged particles 103 eccentrically through a lens 107. As a result of this, energy dispersion will occur in an image formed by the lens. By projecting this image onto a slit 109 in an energy selecting diaphragm 108, it is possible to allow only particles in a limited portion of the energy spectrum to pass. Consequently, the passed beam 113 will have a reduced energy spread. Deflection unit 112 deflects the beam to the optical axis 101. One can also elect to deflect a beam 105 going through the middle of the lens toward the optical axis and having, for example, greater current. The energy dispersed spot is imaged on the slit by a deflector 111. When positioning the energy dispersed spot on the slit, central beam 105 is deflected from the axis to such an extent that it is stopped by the energy selecting diaphragm. Hereby reflections and contamination resulting from this beam in the region after the diaphragm are avoided. Also electron-electron interaction resulting from the electrons from the central beam interacting with the energy filtered beam in the area of deflector 112 is avoided.
Abstract:
An electron gun (1) includes an emitter (2), a tubular support (3) and an adaptor (4) for receiving the emitter. The adaptor includes a tapered plugging surface (7) and the tubular support includes a correspondingly tapered seating surface (9) for receiving the plugging surface. The plugging surface and seating surface have conical profiles which help to position the adaptor concentrically with the support.

An electron gun also has a cathode for emitting electrons, a heater cap which contains a heater for applying the cathode with thermal energy for emitting electrons, a retainer for securing the cathode on the heater cap by clamping the peripheral edge of the cathode onto the heater cap, and a cylindrical Wehnelt supporter. The cylindrical Wehnelt supporter has a Wehnelt electrode for focusing an electron beam that is formed in such a shape that an average angle of the surface thereof with respect to an outermost shell of the electron beam matches a Pierce angle, and three or more heater cap supporters for securely supporting the heater cap at a position at which an electron emitting surface of the cathode and an opening formed through the wehnelt electrode satisfy a predetermined perveance.
