    Abstract: Propylene-ethylene copolymers having a melt flow index of from 2 to 200 g/min, at 230 DEG C and under a weight of 2.16 kg, are obtainable by two-step polymerisation from the gas phase in an agitated fixed bed in the presence of hydrogen as molecular weight regulator by means of a Ziegler-Natta catalyst system comprising a titanium-containing solids component which contains a magnesium compound on finely divided silica or alumina or an aluminosilicate of the empirical formula SiO2.aAl2O3, where a is a value of from 0.001 to 2, and an aluminium component, in which a) in a first polymerisation step, propylene is polymerised at a pressure of from 20 to 40 bar and a temperature of from 60 to 90 DEG C, the ratio between the partial pressures of hydrogen and propylene being set to from 1:100 to 10:100, and subsequently b) in a second polymerisation step, a mixture of propylene and ethylene is polymerised onto the propylene product from the first polymerisation step, at a pressure of from 10 to 30 bar, this pressure being at least 7 bar below the pressure in the first polymerisation step, at a temperature of from 40 to 100 DEG C, and the weight ratio between the monomers reacted in the first polymerisation step and those reacted in the second polymerisation step being set in the range from 1:1 to 20:1. t

    Abstract: Propylene copolymers which comprise a randomly distributed propylene copolymer (I) containing from 0.1 to 15 % by weight of copolymerised C2- to C10-alk-1-enes and a randomly distributed propylene copolymer (II) containing from 15 to 80 % by weight of copolymerised C2- to C10-alk-1-enes, and have been grafted by means of alpha , beta -ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids or carboxylic acid derivatives, and are obtainable by reacting the graft monomer with the propylene copolymer at pressures of from 1 to 300 bar, where, in the presence of from 0.005 to 0.5 % by weight of an initiator which decomposes to form free radicals, from 0.01 to 1.0 % by weight of the monomer to be grafted on, where both concentrations are based on propylene copolymer, is mixed with the molten propylene copolymer, and the grafting reaction is carried out at from 200 to 350 DEG C.

    Abstract: Ziegler-Natta type catalyst system (ZNC), containing (a) a titanium-based solid component containing compounds of Ti and magnesium, a halogen, an inorganic oxide support (IOS) and a carboxylate ester as electron donor, (b) an aluminium compound and (c) optionally another electron donor, in which the oxide (IOS) has a pH of 1-6, an average particle diameter of 5-200 microns and an average primary particle diameter of 1-20 mu m, and contains pores or channels with an average diameter of 0.1-20 mu m in amounts of 5-30 vol%. Also claimed is (i) a process for the production of ZNC by interacting components (a), (b) and (c) together at 0-150 degrees C and 1-100 bar; (ii) a process for the production of polymers of 2-20C alk-1-enes by polymerisation of the alkene (preferably propylene) and optionally other comonomers at 20-150 degrees C and 1-100 bar in presence of (ZNC); (iii) polymers of propylene obtained by this process.

    Abstract: Plastic materials with a melt flow index 230/2.16 of 0.1-100 g/10 minutes contain: (a1) propylene homopolymer with a melt flow index 230/2.16 of 0.1-100 g/10 minutes, or(a2) statistical copolymer of propylene and 2-10C alkene-1 with a comonomer content of less than 15 wt.%, or (a3) a mixt. of 25-97 wt.% of a copolymer of propylene and 0.1-15 wt.% 2-10C alkene-1 and 3-75 wt.% of another propylene copolymer contg. 15-80 wt.% 2-10C alkene-1 units, or(a4) a mixt. of 25-97 wt.% propylene homopolymer and 3-75 wt.% propylene/2-10C alkene-1 copolymer, with a comonomer content of 15-80 wt.% w.r.t. the second polymer, (b) a propylene or ethylene polymer grafted with 0.1-5 wt.% alpha , beta -unsatd. carboxylic acid or acid deriv., with a melt flow index 230/2.16 of 0.01-400 g/10 minutes, and (c) a nitrogen cpd. of formula (I): R =H, 1-30C alkyl, 2-30C alkyl or alk-1-enyl substd. with O atom(s) and/or amino gps., or a gp. of formula (II):HO-(CHR -CHR )m- (II)R =H, 1-4C alkyl or amino; andm=1-100. Also claimed are: (i) a process for the prodn. of the materials, by reacting components (a)-(c) together at 180-280 deg C and 1-100 bar for a mean residence time of 0.2-10 minutes; and(ii) film, fibres and mouldings made from the materials.
