Abstract: PURPOSE: A muffler for a vehicle exhaust system is provided to reduce costs and weight by simplifying a structure and to reduce the noises cased by an engine booming and in oscillation booming a idle range. CONSTITUTION: A muffler(100) for a vehicle exhaust system comprises a case(10), an exhaust inlet pipe(30), an exhaust gas outlet pipe(50), and a variable valve(70). The internal space of the case is partitioned in to a first, a second, a third, and a fourth chambers by a first, a second, and a third baffles(11,12,13). The second and third chambers of the case are connected each other through the second baffle. The exhaust gas input pipe is connected from the first chamber to the forth chamber and a plurality of holes are formed in the outer circumferences of the second and third chambers. The exhaust gas output pipe is passed through from the first chamber to the fourth chamber, thereby coming out to the rear side of the case. The variable valve is installed in the first baffle, thereby selectively connecting the first and second chambers by the back pressure of the exhaust gas.
