Date Aug. 29, 1996Agglomerated, finely divided, crosslinked vinylimidazole copolymers obtainable by free-radically initiated polymerization of N-vinylimidazoles of the formula (I) where R, R1 and R2 are identical or different and each is H, C1-C4-alkyl or phenyl, with at least one crosslinker, optionally other water-soluble monoethylenically unsaturated monomers, and optionally water-insoluble monoethylenically unsaturated monomers in the aqueous phase of a water-in-oil emulsion in the presence of at least one emulsifier comprising block copolymers of the type AB or ABA or comb copolymers constructed from A and B, where A is a hydrophobic polymer block having a molecular weight of >500 g/mol and B is a hydrophilic polymer block having a molecular weight of >500 g/mol, to stabilize the water-in-oil monomer emulsion, azeotropic distillative removal of the water from the water-in-oil polymer suspension, and isolation of the polymers, processes for preparing said agglomerated, finely divided, crosslinked vinylimidazole copolymers, and use of the copolymers in detergents to inhibit the transfer of dye during the wash.
