Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a cosmetic capable of imparting the hair with excellent wiriness and affording the hair with favorable touch with no stickiness, therefore useful for hair dressing or the like by including a specific guanidine derivative or an acid addition salt thereof. SOLUTION: This cosmetic contains a guanidine derivative of formula I (R1 and R2 are each H, a 1-22C alkyl or alkenyl; R3 is H, a 1-4C alkyl or hydroxyalkyl; and A is a 1-10C alkylene or alkenylene) or an acid addition salt thereof (e.g. N-undecylcarbamoyl butylguanidine). The guanidine derivative is prepared, for example, by reaction of a methyl ester of formula II with an amine of formula III. The cosmetic is obtained by formulating 0.001-50 wt.% of the above derivative, 0.1-50 wt.% of a surfactant, 0.1-30 wt.% of an aromatic alcohol, 0.1-20 wt.% of glycolic acid, and 0.1-20 wt.% of a higher alcohol.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound useful for hair cosmetics capable of imparting the hair with excellent wiriness and such favorable feel as not to run slimy or sticky and as to be highly smooth. SOLUTION: This new compound is a compound of the formula [R1 is a 2-30C hydrocarbon; R2 to R5 are each H or a group CH2CH(OH)R1], e.g. N-(2- hydroxyoctadecyl)guanidine. The compound of the formula is obtained, for example, by reaction of guanidine with an α-olefin epoxide (e.g. epoxyoctadecane) in a polar aprotic solvent such as t-butyl alcohol pref. at 0-100 deg.C, This compound is useful as a compounding ingredient for hair cosmetics including hair rinse and hair conditioners.

SOLUTION: This hair treatment agent composition contains, as active ingredients, 1-20wt.% of a keratin-reducing substance (e.g. thioglycolic acid) and 0.1-30wt.% of a guanidine derivative of the formula (X and Y are each H, an alkyl, alkenyl, aromatic ring, aralkyl, etc.; Z and Z are each H, an alkyl, alkenyl, aromatic ring, aralkyl, guanidino, etc.) (e.g. butylguanidine) or an acidadded salt thereof, of pref. formulated with 0.5-50wt.% of an organic solvent (e.g. n-propanol). The composition, which is adjusted to pH3-9, can be prepared by a conventional means into an one-pack or two-pack type curly hair corrective, straight perming agent, permanent wave agent, sustainable hair setting agent, sustainable hair flexibilizer, etc.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject preparation effective for improving the moisture- retaining performance of the cuticle layer and exhibiting excellent chapped skin improving effect by using a specific partly new amide derivative as an active component and optionally adding a nonionic surfactant to the component. SOLUTION: This preparation contains about 0.1-20wt.% of an amide derivative of formula I [R and R are each a 1-40C hydrocarbon group which may have OH; X and Y are each O or methylene (X and Y are not O at the same time); Z is H or 2,3-dihydroxypropyl; (m) is 1-6; (n) is 0-3]. The system is preferably further incorporated with about 0.1-5wt.% of a surfactant (e.g. a glyceryl ether). The compound of formula II is a new compound among the compounds of formula I. The compound of formula I or the compound of formula III which is one of the compound of formula I can be produced e.g. from the amide derivative of formula IV via an amide derivative of formula V (R is methoxymethyl, etc.). A compound wherein Z is 2,3-dihydroxypropyl can be produced from the compound of formula III via two steps.
