Abstract:
An electron extractor of an electron source capable of absorbing contaminant materials from a cavity proximate to the extractor is disclosed. The electron extractor includes a body. The body of the electron extractor is formed from one or more non-evaporable getter materials. The one or more non-evaporable getter materials absorb one or more contaminants contained within a region proximate to the body of the electron extractor. The body of the electron extractor is further configured to extract electrons from one or more emitters posited proximate to the body of the electron extractor.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a cathode arrangement (20) comprising: • - a thermionic cathode comprising an emission portion (30) provided with an emission surface for emitting electrons, and a reservoir (38) for holding a material, wherein the material, when heated, releases work function lowering particles that diffuse towards the emission portion and emanate at the emission surface at a first evaporation rate; • - a focusing electrode (40) comprising a focusing surface for focusing the electrons emitted from the emission surface of the cathode; and • - an adjustable heat source (50) configured for keeping the focusing surface at a temperature at which accumulation of work function lowering particles on the focusing surface is prevented.
Abstract:
The present invention refers to an assembly of a support plate (22) and an exit window foil (20) for use in an electron beam device, said support plate (22) being designed to reduce wrinkles in said foil (20), which wrinkles may arise due to surplus foil arising in the assembly process. The foil (20) is being bonded to the support plate (22) along a closed bonding line (26) bounding a substantially circular area in which the support plate (22) is provided with apertures and foil support portions and in which area the foil is adapted to serve as a portion of a wall of a vacuum tight housing of the electron beam device. The invention also refers to a method for using the assembly in a filling machine, as well as a method of reducing wrinkles.
Abstract:
The present invention generally relates to systems and methods for generating controllable beam of electrons using a hollow-cathode triode electron gun that substantially mitigate impact of back-streaming electrons. In one embodiment, a triode hollow-cathode electron gun is configured to provide electrons and substantially mitigates the impact of back- streaming electrons. The triode hollow-cathode electron gun includes a hollow cathode, a heating filament, an anode, a control grid, a shadow grid and a sleeve mechanically coupled to the hollow-cathode. The sleeve is substantially centered on the axis of the triode hollow- cathode electron gun and configured to maintain shape and trajectory of emitted beams of electrons.
Abstract:
An electron beam sterilizing device comprises; an electron-generating filament (110), a grid (114a-b) connected to a voltage source, a beam shaper (128), and an output window (118). A high voltage source generates a high voltage potential between the electron-generating filament and the output window, for acceleration of electrons. The usability of the device is enhanced in that the electron-generating filament and/or the grid electrode comprises at least two operational portions for variation of the current and form of an output electron beam.
