Abstract:
A miniaturized spectrometer/spectrophotometer system and methods are disclosed. A probe tip including one or more light sources and a plurality of light receivers is provided. A first spectrometer system receives light from a first set of the plurality of light receivers. A second spectrometer system receives light from a second set of the plurality of light receivers. A processor, wherein the processor receives data generated by the first spectrometer system and the second spectrometer system, wherein an optical measurement of a sample under test is produced based on the data generated by the first and second spectrometer systems.
Abstract:
The present invention provides apparatuses and methods for sample analysis, such as tissue analysis, that integrate high wavenumber (HW) Raman spectroscopy for chemical composition analysis and optical coherence tomography (OCT) to provide depth and morphological information. The invention also provides side-viewing optical probes that are based on a single double clad optical fiber for performing the combined HW Raman spectroscopy and OCT. Intravascular catheter embodiments and related vascular diagnostic methods are also provided.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for the remote analysis and identification of unknown compounds. A robotic arm positions a sensor on a surface. The sensor unit has a monitoring mechanism to monitor separation between the sensor unit and the surface when placed in contact with the surface to maintain the separation substantially constant. An illumination source illuminates the region of interest to produce scattered photons from an unknown compound. The scattered photons are collected by an optical system and delivered to a spectroscopic detector for analysis and identification. An algorithm is applied to the data generated by the spectroscopic detector to identify the unknown compound.

Abstract:
A method for determining spectral characteristics of an object is disclosed. A probe is positioned in proximity relative to the object and provides light to a surface of the object and receives light from the object. One or more critical heights are defined below which no specularly refelcted light is received and propagated. Prior to positioning the probe in proximity relative to the object, a plurality of position-sensitive calibration/normalization reference and a plurality of calibration/normalization measurements are taken with the probe at a plurality of predetermined positions with respect to the calibration/normalization reference. The intensity of light received is determined in a plurality of spectral bands with one or more measurements. The spectral characteristics of the object are determined based on the one or more measurements and based on data taken from one or more of the calibration/normalization measurements.
Abstract:
A spectrophotometric system includes a zoom lens assembly that is mounted for axial translation relative to an integrating sphere. The zoom lens assembly includes first and second focusing lens mounted to an axially movable lens carrier. The lens carrier is positioned intermediate first and second sets of mirrors for reflecting/directing SCE and SCI beams toward fiber ports. A reference beam is also emitted from the integrating sphere and transmitted to a processor, thereby resulting in simultaneous tri-beam measurements. The disclosed spectrophotometric systems may also include an aperture plate detection assembly and/or a sample holder assembly that incorporates a dampening gas spring. The aperture plate detection system includes a detection disk that may include a plurality of pre-positioned sensors that interact with an activating ridge formed on the aperture plate for identification thereof.
Abstract:
Color/optical characteristics measuring systems and methods are disclosed. Perimeter receiver fiber optics/elements are spaced apart from a central source fiber optic/element and received light reflected from the surface of the object is measured. Light from the perimeter fiber optics pass to a variety of filters. The system utilizes the perimeter receiver fiber optics to determine information regarding the height and angle of the probe with respect to the object being measured. Under processor control, the color measurement may be made at a predetermined height and angle. Various color spectral photometer arrangements are disclosed. Translucency, fluorescence and/or surface texture data also may be obtained. Audio feedback may be provided to guide operator use of the system. The probe may have a removable or shielded tip for contamination prevention.
Abstract:
The present invention is composed of a computer positioned at a basal portion of an apparatus for conducting image processing and counseling processing; a first image display means for displaying a computer-processed image to a subject, mounted upright in the computer, a second image display means for displaying the computer-processed image to a counselor, mounted upright in the computer so that a display screen thereof is directed in a direction opposite the first display means; and photographic means, positioned near the first image. display means, for photographing a subject directed in a direction of the first display means and feeding a facial image of the subject into the computer, thus making the apparatus small in scale and simple in composition, and suitable for a counselor to provide counseling on make-up to a subject.
