Abstract: Improved aluminum can end stock (CES) is disclosed. The CES includes an adhered polymer coating exhibiting low feathering and high performance in various acid tests. The low feathering and resistance to acid tests is accomplished by incorporating a copolymer adhesion promoter film to an aluminum alloy before lamination. In some cases, the metal strip is pretreated with a conversion layer, which can include compounds of trivalent chromium (Cr(III)) and phosphates or titanium and zirconium.

Abstract: The present invention relates to the use of an amine compound comprising at least one, preferably at least two amine functions, wherein the amine functions are primary or secondary amines, to reduce the level of furfural and/or hydroxymethylfurfural in a carbohydrate-based binder or binder composition and/or escaping in the course of preparation, cross-linking and/or curing of carbohydrate-based binders. Preferably, the carbohydrate-based binder is obtained from a carbohydrate-based binder composition comprising a carbohydrate component and a cross-linker and possibly reaction product of carbohydrate component and cross-linker, wherein the cross-linker is selected from ammonium salts of inorganic acid, carboxylic acids, salts, ester or anhydride derivatives thereof, and/or combinations thereof.

Abstract: An orthopedic implant having a metal surface and a calcium phosphate layer disposed on at least part of the metal surface is described. The calcium phosphate layer has an average crystallite size of less than about 100 nm in at least one direction and dissolves for more than 2 hours in vitro. The calcium phosphate layer is substantially free of carbonate. The coating, which is formed on a sodium titanate surface, has increased shear strength and tensile strength. The coating is formed by a solution deposited hydroxyapatite process under inert conditions. The pH of the solution varies by less than 0.1 pH unit/hour during coating formation.

Abstract: A preparation method and a product of thermoplastic carbon fiber fabric prepreg are provided. The preparation method includes: covering a thermoplastic polyimide non-woven fabric on a carbon fiber fabric to obtain a laminated structure, pressing the laminated structure, then spraying polyphenylene sulfide nanoparticles onto the thermoplastic polyimide non-woven fabric, and performing a two-stage hot melting preparation process which includes: in a first stage, heating up to make the polyphenylene sulfide nanoparticles be melted and infiltrate and keeping a hot melting time of 5-10 min; and in a second stage, heating up to make the thermoplastic polyimide non-woven fabric be melted and infiltrate into the carbon fiber fabric and cooling down after a duration of heat preservation to prepare the thermoplastic carbon fiber fabric prepreg. The thermoplastic carbon fiber fabric prepreg prepared by the two-stage hot melting has high strength and may be stored for a long period.

Abstract: Compositions comprise a perovskite and a non-perovskite. Perovskites comprise AxA′yA″(1−x−y)BX3, and non-perovskites may comprise A″, B and X, where A is a first cation, A′ is a second cation, A″ is a third cation, B is a fourth cation, X is an anion. In some instances, A, A′, and A″ are each independently (NH2)2CH+, CH3NH3+, Cs+, Rb+, or (NH2)2(C═NH2)+, with the proviso that A, A′, and A″ are each different. The perovskite may have a first crystal structure in which the anion is corner-sharing, the non-perovskite may have a second crystal structure comprising at least one of an orthorhombic structure, a hexagonal structure, or a perovskite-like structure, and 1−x−y may be greater than about 0.15.

Abstract: A unique fiber core sampler composition, related systems, and techniques for designing, making, and using the same are described. The sampler is used to interface with existing field instrumentation, such as Ion Mobility Spectrometer (IMS) equipment. Desired sampler characteristics include its: stiffness/flexibility; thermal mass and conductivity; specific heat; trace substance collection/release dependability, sensitivity and repeatability; thickness; reusability; durability; stability for thermal cleaning; and the like. In one form the sampler has a glass fiber core with a thickness less than 0.3 millimeter that is coated with a polymer including one or more of: polymeric organofluorine, polyimide, polyamide, PolyBenzImidazole (PBI), PolyDiMethylSiloxane (PDMS), sulfonated tetrafluoroethylene (PFSA) and Poly(2,6-diphenyl-p-phenylene Oxide) (PPPO). Multiple polymer coatings with the same or different polymer types may be included, core/substrate surface functionalization utilized, and/or the core/substrate may be at partially filled with thermally conductive particles.

Abstract: A vented wound dressing barrier includes one or more membrane layers with a plurality of vents. The vents are cut along a perimeter of the vents through the one or more membrane layers. Each vent having a connection portion uncut relative to the one or more membrane layers thereby forming a hinge configured to allow the vents to open for drainage when exposed to fluid underlying the vented wound dressing barrier. The plurality of vents is each cut along the perimeter without removal of any of the membrane layer. The one or more membrane layers with the plurality of vents has a surface for covering a wound, the surface area in the absence of a fluid pressing on the vents having no openings or voids which reduce the surface area of a vented wound dressing barrier area covering a wound.
