Abstract: An example system includes a first light source, a second light source, a photodetector, and an electronic control device. The electronic control device is operable to cause the first light source to emit first light within a range of wavelengths towards a subject, and measure, using the photodetector, the first light reflected from the subject. The electronic control device is also operable to cause the second light source to emit second light including a plurality of emission peaks within the range of wavelengths, and measure, using the photodetector, the second light. The electronic control device is also operable to determine spectral information regarding the subject based on the measured first light and the measured second light.

Abstract: A photodetector includes: a semiconductor substrate; a mesa portion formed on a major surface of the semiconductor substrate to extend along an optical waveguide direction; a first contact layer; a second contact layer; a first electrode; and an air bridge wiring electrically connected to the first contact layer and the first electrode. When viewed in a direction perpendicular to the major surface of the semiconductor substrate, a length of the mesa portion in the optical waveguide direction is longer than a length of the mesa portion in a direction perpendicular to the optical waveguide direction. The air bridge wiring is led out from the first contact layer to one side in the direction perpendicular to the optical waveguide direction, and is bridged between the first contact layer and the first electrode.

Abstract: In some embodiments, a system comprises a head-mounted frame removably coupleable to the user's head; one or more light sources coupled to the head-mounted frame and configured to emit light with at least two different wavelengths toward a target object in an irradiation field of view of the light sources; one or more electromagnetic radiation detectors coupled to the head-mounted member and configured to receive light reflected after encountering the target object; and a controller operatively coupled to the one or more light sources and detectors and configured to determine and display an output indicating the identity or property of the target object as determined by the light properties measured by the detectors in relation to the light properties emitted by the light sources.

Abstract: A measurement system comprising one or more semiconductor diodes configured to penetrate tissue comprising skin. The detection system comprising a camera, which may also include a direct or indirect time-of-flight sensor. The detection system synchronized to the pulsing of the semiconductor diodes, and the camera further coupled to a processor. The detection system non-invasively measuring blood within the skin, measuring hemoglobin absorption between 700 to 1300 nm, and the processor deriving physiological parameters and comparing properties between different spatial locations and variation over time. The semiconductor diodes may comprise vertical cavity surface emitting lasers, and the detection system may comprise single photon avalanche photodiodes. The measurement system may be used to observe eye parameters and differential blood flow. The system may be used with photo-bio-modulation therapy, or it may be used in advanced driver monitoring systems for multiple functions including head pose, eye tracking, facial authentication, and smart restraint control systems.

Abstract: The disclosure is to provide a practical structure of a pulse spectrometer that transmits pulsed light by dividing it through a plurality of fibers for pulse stretching, and makes the divided light beams overlap in a same region on an irradiation surface. A broadband pulsed light from a pulse light source is divided according to wavelength by an arrayed waveguide grating used as a dividing element, the pulse is then correlated one-to-one between time and wavelength while being transmitted through a bundle fiber, and then emitted through an irradiation unit onto an object. The individual light beams output from the individual cores of the bundle fiber are overlapped by a first lens in a substantially same region on a first plane perpendicular to an optical axis, and an image in the first region is projected by second lenses so as to be emitted on the object.

Abstract: In an optical device, a base and a movable unit are constituted by a semiconductor substrate including a first semiconductor layer, an insulating layer, and a second semiconductor layer in this order from one side in a predetermined direction. The base is constituted by the first semiconductor layer, the insulating layer, and the second semiconductor layer. The movable unit includes an arrangement portion that is constituted by the second semiconductor layer. The optical function unit is disposed on a surface of the arrangement portion on the one side. The first semiconductor layer that constitutes the base is thicker than the second semiconductor layer that constitutes the base. A surface of the base on the one side is located more to the one side than the optical function unit.
