Abstract: An apparatus for measuring characteristics of an electronic display panel includes an array of optical elements. Each optical element has a first surface and a second surface. The first surface faces the electronic display panel and receives light from pixels of the electronic display panel. The second surface faces away from the electronic display panel and has an area smaller than the area of the first surface. The second surface emits a combined version of the light received by the first surface. The apparatus further includes a light sensor facing the second surface to measure one or more parameters of the emitted light.

Abstract: An imaging device includes laser diodes (LDs) generating near-infrared wavelength light, lenses configured to deliver the light to tissue, a first receiver having one or more detectors, and a first part with at least one of the LDs capable of being pulsed. The first receiver receives light reflected from the tissue and is synchronized to the pulsed light and configured to perform a time-of-flight measurement. An infrared camera receives light reflected by the tissue from a second part of the imaging device. The camera captures light while the second part is off, and while the second part is on to generate corresponding signals, and differences the signals to generate an image. An array of LDs generates a grid of spots on the tissue, which is reflected to the camera. A coupled phone, tablet, or computer receives and processes the time-of-flight measurement, the image, and the reflected grid of spots.

Abstract: An apparatus comprising at least: a first waveguide; a second waveguide; and a diffractive element. The first waveguide guides a first band of onto the diffractive element such that the first band is diffracted at an mth non-zero order over a first range of angles. The second waveguide guides a second band onto the diffractive element such that the second band is diffracted at the mth non-zero over the first range of angles. The second waveguide guides a third band onto the diffractive element such that the third band is diffracted at the nth non-zero order over the first range of angles. Wavelengths of the first band, the second band, and the third band do not overlap with each other. The mth order and the nth order are different from each other.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to the field of optical systems. The envisaged multi-scan optical system is compact and stable. The system comprises an excitation source, a hydra fiber cable, a wavelength selector, an optical element, and a detector. The excitation source is configured to emit composite light. The hydra fiber cable has a head and a plurality of tentacles, and is configured to receive the composite light via a second lens. The plurality of tentacles is configured to emit the composite light towards the wavelength selector which includes a plurality of optical slits (s1-s8) and a plurality of shutters. The wavelength selector is configured to selectively collect and filter the composite light directed by a first lens and the plurality of tentacles by means of the plurality of shutters. The detector is configured to detect the plurality of spectral line scans reflected by the optical element for spectrometric analysis.

Abstract: A handheld LIBS spectrometer system features an optics stage moveable with respect to a housing and including a laser focusing lens. A laser source is mounted in the housing for directing a laser beam to a sample via the laser focusing lens. A detection fiber is mounted in the housing and is fixed relative thereto. A first mirror is fixed relative to the housing and includes an aperture for the laser beam. This mirror is oriented to re-direct plasma radiation for delivery to the detection fiber. A controller subsystem is responsive to the output of a spectrometer subsystem and is configured to control the laser source and the optics stage.

Abstract: A carbon isotope analyzer 1 includes a carbon dioxide isotope generator 40 that includes a combustion unit that generates gas containing carbon dioxide isotope from carbon isotope, and a carbon dioxide isotope purifying unit; a spectrometer 10 including an optical resonator 11 having a pair of mirrors 12, and a photodetector 15 that determines the intensity of light transmitted from the optical resonator 11; and a light generator 20 including a light source 23, a first optical fiber 21 to transmit a light beam from the light source 23, a second optical fiber 22 for wavelength conversion, the second optical fiber 22 splitting from the first optical fiber 21 at a point and combining with the first optical fiber 21 at another point downstream of the splitting point, and a non-linear optical crystal 25 that generates light having the absorption wavelength of the carbon dioxide isotope on the basis of the difference in frequency between light beams transmitted through the optical crystal 25. The carbon isotope analyzer 1 is a simple and convenient apparatus that can analyze isotope 14C.

Abstract: A 2-D sensor array includes a semiconductor substrate and a plurality of pixels disposed on the semiconductor substrate. Each pixel includes a coupling region and a junction region, and a slab waveguide structure disposed on the semiconductor substrate and extending from the coupling region to the region. The slab waveguide includes a confinement layer disposed between a first cladding layer and a second cladding layer. The first cladding and the second cladding each have a refractive index that is lower than a refractive index of the confinement layer. Each pixel also includes a coupling structure disposed in the coupling region and within the slab waveguide. The coupling structure includes two materials having different indices of refraction arranged as a grating defined by a grating period. The junction region comprises a p-n junction in communication with electrical contacts for biasing and collection of carriers resulting from absorption of incident radiation.
