A method of operating a motorized window covering is presented wherein in response to a standard movement command power is supplied to a motor in a continuous or generally continuous manner thereby moving the shade material from a start position to an end position in a generally continuous manner. However, in doing so, the motor rotates at a fast rate thereby causing elevated noise levels. In response to an automated movement command, power is supplied to the motor by cycling power to the motor between a powered state and an unpowered state thereby moving the shade material from a start position to an end position in an incremental manner. While moving the shade material in this incremental manner is slower, it is substantially quieter. The preferred mode of operation is selected based on whether the movement command is a standard movement command or an automated movement command.

Alloyed Ag/Au nanospheres with high compositional homogeneity ensured by annealing at elevated temperatures show large extinction cross-sections, extremely narrow band-widths and remarkable stability in harsh chemical environments. A critical temperature has been found to be around 930° C., below which the resulting alloy nanospheres, although significantly more stable than pure silver nanoparticles, can still gradually decay upon extended exposure to harsh etchant. The nanospheres annealed above the critical temperature show homogeneous distribution of Ag and Au elements, minimal crystallographic defects, absence of structural and compositional interfaces, which account for the extremely narrow bandwidths of the surface plasmon resonance, and may render many plasmonic applications with high performance and long lifetime, especially for those involving corrosive species.

A high-efficiency, stall-proof airfoil is an aircraft wing configuration whereby a motive force directly induces gaseous fluid flow across a lifting surface of the airfoil without requiring a movement of the wing through an air space. The airfoil is provided with means to control a pitch, a roll and a yaw motion and to control a position and stability of the aircraft. When not undergoing horizontal displacement, it provides highly efficient use of fuel resources, precluding the formation of drag and its incumbent power consumption. Air pressure at a bottom of the wing remains essentially ambient. Therefore, differential pressure between a lower surface of the wing and an upper surface of the wing maintains its maximum possible quantity. Virtually, all of the power consumed is utilized in a production of lift. Additionally, because lift is generated without regard to an angle-of-attack, forward speed, nor a configuration of a leading edge of the wing, the configuration is essentially stall proof.

A non-contact printer controls the sensitivity of sensors provided upstream of a print head, to detect the approach of an object. In a calibration operation to set the sensitivity level of the sensors before a printing operation, the printer displays instructions to guide the operator and adjusts the sensor sensitivity to find detection threshold levels for a background (object absent) condition and when the object is present. The calibration results may be stored in association with data identifying the conveyor and the type of object used in the calibration operation. If the same conveyor and/or object type is used again in a later printing operation, the sensitivity level of the sensors can be set using the stored calibration results so that a further calibration operation is not necessary.
