Abstract:
A method is described for producing a stratified composite material, with a layer of sinterable solids particles being applied to a strip-like metal carrier and being sintered with liquid phase by the supply of heat continuously in the forward feed direction. In order to provide simplified production conditions it is proposed that the metal carrier is heated continuously in the forward feed direction with a temperature profile which decreases towards lower temperatures from a maximum temperature above the melting temperature of the solids particles in the region of a surface layer receiving the particle layer towards a core layer of the metal carrier, and that the particle layer is sintered at least in a layer resting on the metal carrier by a heat transmission from the heated metal carrier.
Abstract:
Solid extrusion coating compositions for metal substrates, a method of extrusion coating a metal substrate, and a metal article are disclosed. The extrusion coating composition is a thermoplastic material and comprises: (a) a polyester having a weight average molecular weight of about 10,000 to about 50,000, and optionally, (b) a modifying resin, such as an epoxy resin having an epoxy equivalent weight of about 500 to about 15,000. The extrusion coating composition is applied to a metal substrate in an extrusion process to provide a composition film having a thickness of about 1 to about 40 microns.
Abstract:
An electrosurgical device including a reinforcing underlayment having a non-stick, anti-microbial coating. In one embodiment, the coating includes a non-stick material having anti-microbial particles interspersed in the non-stick material. This coating is applied to the surfaces of the electrode to minimize the build-up of charred tissue on the surfaces of the electrode. Also, the coating tends to kill harmful organisms residing on the surfaces of the electrode. In another embodiment, a primer coating is initially applied to the surfaces of the electrode. A plurality of anti-microbial particles are then applied to the primer coating layer and engage and are embedded in the primer coating layer. A top coat including a non-stick material is applied to the anti-microbial particle layer. In either embodiment, the coating layers applied to the surfaces of the electrode are cured to harden and adhere the layers to the electrode.
Abstract:
After forming a primary powder bed at a toothed portion of an article, such as a gear or a spline shaft, by electrostatic powder coating process, the powder bed is removed from crests of teeth in the toothed portion by a specified thickness by scraping it off while sucking up the scraped powder. Next, the electrostatic powder coating process is performed again to form a secondary powder bed over the entire surface of the toothed portion. Then, the primary and secondary powder beds are melted or fused by induction heating to thereby form a coating film of a substantially uniform thickness.

Abstract:
A method and apparatus for drying and curing a coating which as been applied in liquid form to a metal substrate. The process and apparatus include a precuring or drying of the coating by rapidly heating the sheet in an electromagnetic induction coil to volatilize solvents in the coating. The precured sheets are then immediately conveyed to a conventional convection oven for further heating the sheets by baking the sheets at a temperature and for a duration in accordance with the drying and curing specifications of the coating manufacturer. The induction coil is designed to heat the sheet metal in a narrow transverse band as the sheet moves through the induction coil. The power supply to the induction circuit is designed to permit the induction coil to be turned on under varying load.
Abstract:
The method of coating an elongated metallic member with a thermosetting plastic powder coating or with a thermosetting plastic powder undercoating and a thermoplastic powder outer coating, is significantly improved by passing the coated elongated metallic member through at least one induction coil to heat the metal and thereby the coating to the curing temperature of the thermosetting plastic powder and holding the temperature for the curing time. Curing temperatures, which depend upon the thermosetting plastic powder coating being cured, are sufficient to fully cure the material within seconds.
Abstract:
In a process for coating the surface of workpieces, a coating agent is applied to the workpiece and then cured in an electromagnetic alternating field. In order to enable a high-quality surface coating even with standard coating agents, in particular with liquid coatings, despite the short duration of the process, first the volatile components of the coating agent are expelled in an electromagnetic alternating field having a first frequency spectrum. For the purpose of crosslinking and/or curing the remaining coating agent components, the surface of the workpiece is then heated in an electromagnetic alternating field having a second frequency spectrum, the frequency range of which is below the first frequency spectrum.
