Abstract: In one embodiment, an infrared (IR) imaging system for determining a concentration of a target species in an object is disclosed. The imaging system can include an optical system including an optical focal plane array (FPA) unit. The optical system can have components defining at least two optical channels thereof, said at least two optical channels being spatially and spectrally different from one another. Each of the at least two optical channels can be positioned to transfer IR radiation incident on the optical system towards the optical FPA. The system can include a processing unit containing a processor that can be configured to acquire multispectral optical data representing said target species from the IR radiation received at the optical FPA. Said optical system and said processing unit can be contained together in a data acquisition and processing module configured to be worn or carried by a person.

Abstract: Various embodiments of the invention provide systems and methods for low-cost, low-power Array Waveguide Grating (AWG)-based miniaturized Raman spectroscopy for use in non-invasive glucose monitoring systems, such as in wearable devices that require no replenishment of chemicals or enzymes. The AWG may be manufactured using VLSI processing technology, which significantly reduces manufacturing cost and replaces holographic grating as the dispersive component of light. In embodiments, the AWG is integrated with a number of PIN photodiode detectors on a substrate to further reduce cost and signal loss. In embodiments, a prism-coupling method eliminates alignment problems associated with traditional approaches that utilize fiber-coupling methods.

The spectrometer system may comprise a hand held communication device coupled to a spectrometer, in which the user can input and receive data related to the measured object with the hand held communication device. The embodiments disclosed herein allow many users to share object data with many people, in order to provide many people with actionable intelligence in response to spectral data.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to systems, methods, and sensors configured to characterize a radiation beam. At least one embodiment relates to an optical system. The optical system includes an optical radiation guiding system. The optical radiation guiding system includes a collimator configured to collimate the radiation beam into a collimated radiation beam. The optical radiation guiding system also includes a beam shaper configured to distribute power of the collimated radiation beam over a discrete number of line shaped fields. A spectrum of the collimated radiation beam entering the beam shaper is delivered to each of the discrete number of line shaped fields. The optical system further includes a spectrometer chip. The spectrometer chip is configured to process the spectrum of the collimated radiation beam in each of the discrete number of line shaped fields coming from the beam shaper.

Abstract: A spectral measurement device includes a light reflection grating having a plurality of movable gratings and a movable grating drive unit that displaces the movable gratings to alter a grating pattern of the light reflection grating, a light detecting element that detects light incident on the light reflection grating, a storage unit storing a relationship between a light quantity to be detected by the light detecting element and corresponding light intensities at differing wavelengths for different grating patterns, and a computation unit that calculates light intensities at the differing wavelengths of the light incident on the light reflection grating based on the light quantity of the incident light detected by the light detecting element for each of the different grating patterns by altering the grating pattern based on the relationship between the light quantity and the corresponding light intensities for the different grating patterns stored in the storage unit.
