    Abstract: A compound is provided to show excellent binding affinity to aggregates and fibrils of beta-amyloid, thereby being useful for an early diagnosis of degenerative brain diseases and preventing and treating the diseases. A compound is represented by a formula(1) and is prepared by reacting a compound represented by a formula(2) with a compound represented by a formula(2) and a base such as alkylamine or aromatic amine and then cyclizing a reaction product using an acid. In the formula, X is O or S; R^1 is H, OH, COOH, halogen, C1-8 alkyl, C1-8 alkoxy, tosyloxy-C1-8 alkoxy, mesyloxy-C1-8 alkoxy, nosyloxy-C1-8 alkoxy, halogen substituted C1-8 alkoxy or C1-8 alkylamino; and R^2 is OH, NO2, NH2, C1-8 alkylamino or C1-8 dialkylamino. A pharmaceutical composition for diagnosing, preventing or treating degenerative brain diseases comprises the compound of the formula(1) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as an effective ingredient.

    Abstract: Polycyan amide cpd. of formula (I) is prepd. by diazotization of polycyan amide of polymer (II) in conc. sulfuric acid by reacting with sodium nitrite at 0 deg.C; and coupling that with ethyl red of formula (IIIa) or acid orange 8 of formula (IIIb) or acid red 88 of formula (IIIc) or K1 of formula (IIId) in the conc. sulfuric acid. In the formulas, X is integer of 10-30; n is more than 100. The obtd. cpd. (I) produces photocurrent by visible light and has photoconductivity, and is useful for a photo-cell, electrical storage polymer battery or sensor.
