Abstract:
The present invention relates at least in part to devices which are capable of indicating the presence of moisture. Embodiments of the present invention involve the provision of a solid dispersion of a color-forming material in a hydrophilic polyurethane material. In particular, although not exclusively, the present invention relates to devices comprising foam, e.g., hydrophilic polyurethane foam and a color former. Also included in the embodiments of the present invention are methods comprising the use of the devices, and other subject matter.
Abstract:
A new kinetically-controlled sol-gel doping method in which a dopant is applied to a sol-gel material during the transition (gelation) phase, rather than before or after the transition phase to an alcogel.
Abstract:
A surface coating method and a method for reducing irreversible capacity loss of a lithium rich transitional oxide electrode are disclosed herein. In an example of the surface coating method, a dispersion of a lithium rich transitional oxide powder and an oxide precursor or a phosphate precursor in a liquid is formed. The liquid is evaporated. The forming and evaporating steps are carried out in the absence of air to prevent precipitation of the oxide precursor or the phosphate precursor. Hydrolyzation of the oxide precursor or the phosphate precursor is controlled under predetermined conditions, and an intermediate product is formed. The intermediate product is annealed to form an oxide coated lithium rich transitional oxide powder or the phosphate coated lithium rich transitional oxide powder.
Abstract:
A process for the acetylation of wood comprising submerging the wood in an acetylation fluid under pressure, and subsequently heating the wood under controlled conditions to initiate two distinct exothermic reactions. The process permits the simultaneous upgrading of large quantities of commercial wood sizes having a natural durability class 4 or class 5 to a unique product of durability class 1 or class 2.
Abstract:
A method of forming a lubricating coating on a razor blade that includes: providing a razor blade having a body and a cutting edge tapering from the body; providing a tank of a colloidal dispersion of a polymer having less than 2% in weight of polymer particles; providing a spray gun in fluid communication with the tank, the gun having an end directed to a blade-spraying region; placing the razor blade at a predetermined temperature (T) in the blade-spraying region; flowing the colloidal dispersion from the tank to the end of the spray gun, and in a direction to the razor blade; controlling a first gas stream to nebulise the colloidal dispersion into a mist in a dispersion region located between the end of the spray gun and the razor blade; independently controlling a second gas stream to control the mist properties; transporting the mist from the dispersion region to the razor blade placed in the blade-spraying region, the razor blade being at the predetermined temperature (T) so that water evaporates from the mist, and sintering the polymer.

A brush composition used for phase-separation of a layer containing a block copolymer on a substrate, the brush composition including a resin component (N), the resin component (N) containing a hydrophobic structural unit (Nx) and a hydrophilic structural unit (Ny), the amount of the structural unit (Ny) within the resin component (N) being 5 mol % or less.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a chromatography column, in particular for a gas phase chromatography, comprising a stationary phase made from a sol. This method comprises the following steps: (a) introducing this sol at the first end of the column, (b) moving said sol towards the second end of the column, so that a sol layer is formed on the internal wall of the column, this layer being able to form a gel on said internal wall, and (c) drying of the gel. The present invention also relates to a capillary column as well as to a microcolumn which may be manufactured according to this method.
Abstract:
Polymer particles containing a polyoxymethylene polymer for coating metallic substrates are described. The polymeric particles contain a polyoxymethylene polymer in combination with an adhesion promoter which may comprise an acid modified polyolefin and performance enhancing additives. The polyoxymethylene polymer and the adhesion promoter may also be combined with a thermoplastic elastomer and optionally a coupling agent. Also disclosed is a process where the polymeric particles are used to from a fluidized bed for coating metallic substrates. In one embodiment, after being coated with the polymer particles, the coated metal substrate is gas cooled followed by cooling the coated substrate in a bath containing an aqueous medium.
