Abstract: A method for repairing damaged metal surfaces. A marred painted surface, for example the painted sheet metal forming automobile or truck bodies, which has been damaged by scratching or chipping of the paint to expose metals, is touched up so as to renew the continuous painted appearance and to prevent corrosion of the exposed metal by applying touch-up paint to the marred metal surface, and rubbing the marred surface and the immediately surrounding unmarred finished surface with a soft, flexible sheet material which has been wetted with a touch-up paint solvent composition, to remove the excess paint inadvertently spread over the old finish surrounding the scratch or chip. The flexible sheet material with the solvent is rubbed over the touched-up area only after the touch-up paint has partially set, generally from about 1 to about 15 minutes after application. The solvent composition comprises a paraffinic liquid solvent, and optionally a stronger, more active solvent selected from the group of lower alkyl-substituted benzene and oxygenated aliphatic and cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon compounds and halogen substituted such compounds.

Abstract: Articles having coatings that are resistant to high temperature degradation are described, along with methods for making such articles. The article comprises a coating disposed on a substrate. The coating comprises a plurality of elongated surface-connected voids. The article further includes a protective agent disposed within at least some of the voids of the coating; the protective agent comprises a substance capable of chemically reacting with liquid nominal CMAS to form a solid crystalline product outside the crystallization field of said nominal CMAS. This solid crystalline product has a melting temperature greater than about 1200 degrees Celsius. The method generally includes disposing the protective agent noted above within the surface connected voids of the coating at an effective concentration to substantially prevent incursion of CMAS materials into the voids in which the protective agent is disposed.

Abstract: A simple spray coating process can be utilized to create epoxy/HNT nanocomposites with vertically aligned nanotubes. Important mechanical properties such as modulus and hardness values can be optimized and enhanced by controlling the level of nanotube dispersion during processing and the final orientation of the nanotubes. Thus, a technologically relevant processing scheme can be used to fabricate HNT nanocomposites with a high level of control over nanotube alignment and the resulting mechanical properties.

Abstract: To provide a surface treatment method for hydrophilizing a surface of a treatment target and preventing charging by a simple and easy method and an anti-static agent. The present invention provides a surface treatment method. The method comprises an anti-static treatment step of coating a treatment target with an anti-static agent comprising an electrolyte (e1), a hydrophilic polymer (a) and water, and having electrical conductivity of 15 mS/m or more to obtain a coated film (A), drying the coated film (A) to obtain an anti-static layer, and a hydrophilizing treatment step of coating the anti-static layer with a hydrophilizing treatment agent comprising a hydrophilic polymer (b) and an alcohol to obtain a coated film (B), and drying the coated film (B), followed by rinsing thereof.
