Abstract: An object is to provide an aqueous coating material composition having high viscosity expression property as well as a viscosity property of decreasing viscosity with increase in shear velocity; in particular, to provide an aqueous coating material composition that can form a multilayer coating film having excellent smoothness, clarity, flip-flop property, adhesion, and water resistance; in addition, to provide a method for forming a multilayer coating film using such aqueous coating material composition, as well as a coated article that has been coated with such aqueous coating material composition. As a solution, an aqueous coating material composition is provided that contains a polyester resin (A), acrylic resin particles (B), a curing agent (C), and a coloring pigment (D), wherein the polyester resin (A) is a resin containing a trifunctional or higher polyfunctional polycarboxylic acid (a1) and a polyol (a2) as monomer components.

Abstract: Shelf-stable low temperature cure coating compositions that include a hydroxy-functional resin, a crosslinking agent, and a catalyst that does not catalyze the crosslinking reaction between hydroxy-functional resin and the crosslinking agent contained therein, but instead between a hydroxy-functional resin and a crosslinking agent contained in a different low temperature cure coating composition. In addition, low temperature cure composite coatings that include: a waterborne basecoat containing a first hydroxy-functional resin, a first crosslinking agent, a first catalyst, and an organic solvent; and a solventborne topcoat containing a second hydroxy-functional resin, a second crosslinking agent, a second catalyst, and water, where the first catalyst migrates into the topcoat from the basecoat and catalyzes the reaction between the second hydroxy-functional resin and crosslinking agent, and the second catalyst migrates into the basecoat from the topcoat and catalyzes the reaction between the first hydroxy-functional resin and crosslinking agent.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a membrane comprising a bulkhead layer, wherein more than 50% by weight of the bulkhead layer is composed of PVC, and a barrier layer. The barrier layer can, on the one hand, be a barrier layer S1, wherein the barrier layer S1 has a polyvinyl alcohol layer comprising more than 50% by weight of copolymer PA, which is connected to the bulkhead layer by a polyurethane layer, wherein more than 10% by weight of the polyurethane layer is composed of polyurethane PUR. The barrier layer can, on the other hand, be a barrier layer S2, wherein the barrier layer S2 has a composition comprising 5-50% by weight of polyurethane PUR and 50-95% by weight of copolymer PA. The membranes according to the invention have significantly lower plasticizer migration compared to the membranes of the prior art and are distinguished by improved resistance to aging, particularly as regards the adherence of the barrier layer on the bulkhead layer, and imperviousness to damp.

Abstract: A multi-layer coating system includes: (a) a first basecoat layer formed from a first coating composition including a free polyisocyanate and hydroxyl functional polymeric core-shell particles; (b) a second basecoat layer applied over at least a portion of the first basecoat layer, the second basecoat layer formed from a second coating composition including carboxylic acid functional polymeric core-shell particles; and (c) a topcoat layer applied over at least a portion of the second basecoat layer, the topcoat layer formed from a coating composition including least one free polyisocyanate having a weight average molecular weight of less than 600 g/mol and at least one film-forming resin in which an amount of free polyisocyanate having a weight average molecular weight of less than 600 g/mol is greater than 5 weight %, based on the total resin solids of the coating composition that forms the topcoat layer.

Abstract: A method includes a step of applying an aqueous 2-package type first colored paint to form an uncured first colored coating film; a step of applying an aqueous 1-package type second colored paint to form an uncured second colored coating film; a step of applying a solvent-based 2-package type clear paint to form an uncured clear coating film; and a step of heating the uncured first colored coating film, the uncured second colored coating film and the uncured clear coating film to 75 to 100° C. to simultaneously cure these films. The solvent-based 2-package type clear paint contains a hydroxyl group-containing acrylic resin and a polyisocyanate compound in a ratio of 1.5 to 2.0 equivalents of isocyanate groups in the polyisocyanate compound relative to 1 equivalent of hydroxyl groups in the hydroxyl group-containing acrylic resin.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to coated non-metallic substrates and coated metallic substrates, and methods for producing such coated substrates. A variant of the method is characterized in that a mat or glossy coating is underneath a metallic layer obtained in some cases by way of vapor deposition and/or sputtering. In another variant, the metallic is sufficiently thin so that it remains transparent or translucent to visible light. The coated substrates may include multiple layers such as metallic layers, polysiloxane layers, a color layer, a conversion layer, a primer layer, and/or a transparent or colored layer. An application system for applying a metallic layer to at least one surface of a substrate may include a plasma generator and/or a corona system for treating one or more layers by plasma treatment and/or corona treatment.
