Abstract:
Disclosed are coating apparatus and coating methods to uniformly coat complex objects. The coating apparatus comprises first, second and/or third gimbals connected to rotational mechanisms to allow rotation of the gimbals around or about first, second and/or third axis. When three gimbals are used, an object holder is connected to the third gimbal. When an object is present in the object holder, it can be immersed in a coating solution to form a coated object. After removal from the coating solution, the coated object is then rotated around or about two or three axes which produces a multidirectional centrifugal force which causes the coating solution to spread evenly over the surface of the object to produce a uniform thin film. Coating methods based on the forgoing are also disclosed.
Abstract:
A pretreatment fluid for printing media with a pigment ink composition includes a liquid vehicle, at least one polymeric binder selected from the group consisting of acrylic polymers, acrylic copolymers, polyurethanes, salts thereof, and/or combinations thereof; and an associative thickener. The pretreatment fluid has a viscosity of about 10 cps to about 1000 cps and a surface tension of about 16 dynes/cm to about 30 dynes/cm.

Abstract:
A method of making a hard latex from a latex comprising an aqueous dispersion of a polymer, the method comprising the step of exposing the latex to infrared radiation.
Abstract:
A method for the temporary protection of patinated surfaces of copper products, in which an aqueous polymer dispersion is applied to the patinated surface, so that the polymer dispersion penetrates regions of the porous patina that are close to the surface, and in which the aqueous polymer dispersion is subsequently dried, so that it forms a composite with the patina that is permeable to water vapor diffusion. The polymer dispersion binds loose dust located on prepatinated copper products and simplifies the handling of the copper products. It behaves in a hydrophobic manner, but on the other hand it permits the required access of air moisture and water to the patina layer for further weathering.
Abstract:
An injection nozzle having a nozzle body defining an injection cavity and at least one curing device integrally formed within the nozzle body.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a portable apparatus for heating a surface of an object during powder coating. The object is fixed at a location, and a powder comprising a thermal plastic polymer or a thermoset polymer is applied to the surface of the object prior to heating. The apparatus comprises a portable support member, and a portable first heater for heating the surface of the object, the first heater being mounted to the support member.
Abstract:
Methods and associated compositions are described for applying onto a substrate a cured coating that includes at least one layer of a water-borne basecoat and one layer of clearcoat and that requires a maximum total curing time of less than about 45 minutes. Further described are methods and associated compositions for applying onto a substrate a cured coating that includes at least one layer of primer, at least one layer of a water-borne basecoat and at least one layer of clearcoat and that requires a maximum total curing time of less than about 65 minutes.
Abstract:
A composition for coating metal surfaces based on crosslinking polyester resins as an organic constituent, which, based on its total mass, contains from 4 to 20% by weight of aluminum flakes and not more than 0.1% by weight of compounds containing isocyanate groups. The composition preferably comprises, as an organic binder, at least one hydroxylated polyester resin, preferably having a mean molar mass in the range from 2000 to 15,000, a crosslinking component for the hydroxylated polyester resin and an acidic crosslinking catalyst. A process for applying the composition to metal strip in a belt process is likewise disclosed. The layer application is adjusted within the range from 3 to 30 μm according to the end use, for which double coating may be advantageous. For example, the composition may serve as a “galvanization replacement”.
Abstract:
A plasma is produced in a treatment space (58) by diffusing a plasma gas at atmospheric pressure and subjecting it to an electric field created by two metallic electrodes (54,56) separated by a dielectric material (64), and a precursor material is introduced into the treatment space to coat a substrate film or web (14) by vapor deposition or atomized spraying at atmospheric pressure. The deposited precursor exposed to an electromagnetic field (AC, DC, or plasma) and then it is cured by electron-beam, infrared-light, visible-light, or ultraviolet-light radiation, as most appropriate for the particular material being deposited. Additional plasma post-treatment may be used to enhance the properties of the resulting coated products.
