Abstract: Method for purifying isocyanates (I) by distillation. Method for purifying isocyanates by distillation comprises: (a) first separating a stream (1) containing (I), high and low boilers and non-evaporatable residue (X) by distillation (at least one theoretical plate) into a sidestream (2), containing (I) and (X), and a vapor stream (3), containing (I) and low boilers; (b) (X) in (2) is kept separate from (3) and/or material streams that consist at least partly of (3); (c) another (I)-containing vapor stream (4) is separated from (2), leaving stream (8) consisting essentially of (X); (d) streams (4) and (3) are separated by distillation into 3 streams (5,6,7) of different boiling ranges, where the lowest boiler (5) contains a significant proportion of the low boilers in (1), the highest boiler (7) contains a significant proportion of the high boilers in (1) and the middle stream (6) is essentially (I).

Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the partial or complete separation of a mixture comprising hydrogen chloride and phosgene, possibly solvents and possibly low boilers and inerts as are typically obtained in the preparation of isocyanates by reaction of amines with phosgene, which comprises firstly carrying out a partial or complete condensation of phosgene, then a distillation or stripping step in a column to remove the hydrogen chloride from the bottom product phosgene and subsequently a scrub of the top product hydrogen chloride by means of the process solvent to absorb the phosgene in the process solvent. An after-purification by means of adsorption on activated carbon or by another suitable method can subsequently be carried out to remove solvent residues.

Abstract: An aqueous solution of free hydroxylamine is prepared by treating a hydroxylammonium salt with ammonia by the countercurrent method in a stripping column by a process in which hydroxylamine is liberated and at the same time the solution obtained is separated by distillation into an aqueous hydroxylamine solution and a salt fraction. The novel process can be carried out in a simple and gentle manner and on a large scale. The danger of decomposition is minimized owing to the low thermal load, the low concentration of hydroxylamine and the short residence time in the process.
