Abstract: A powder coating composition is provided herein. The powder coating composition includes a glycidyl-functionalized (meth)acrylic resin as a film-forming binder, a cross-linking agent (hardener) for the binder, particles chosen from the group comprising aluminum oxide Al2O3 and aluminum hydroxide Al(OH)3 particles, and a coating additive, the wt % based on the total weight of the powder coating composition. A process for the production of a scratch resistant powder coating is also provided herein. The process includes the steps of a) applying a transparent clear coat or a pigmented top coat directly onto a substrate surface or onto a prior coating, and b) curing the clear coat or the top coat applied in step a) wherein the transparent clear coat or the pigmented top coat includes the powder coating composition.

Abstract: An electrical steel sheet has an insulating coating on a steel sheet surface. The insulating coating includes one or more selected from an inorganic salt, an oxide, and an organic resin. The insulating coating includes the inorganic salt and/or the oxide in an amount of 50% or more by mass in total based on the total mass of the insulating coating. The insulating coating has a fluorine concentration ranging from 2 ppm to 130 ppm. The insulating coating is free of a chromium compound. The insulating coating of this electrical steel sheet has excellent coating compatibility.

The vehicle preparation may include applying masking materials to at least a portion of the vehicle. The vehicle preparation may include application of a pre-treatment to at least a portion of the vehicle. A coating may be applied to at least a portion of the vehicle. The coating may include one or more layers. The masking materials may be removed from the vehicle after the completion of the coating application. The vehicle may be electronically recorded into inventory using a data acquisition and/or process control system. The vehicle may be delivered and/or returned to the vehicle manufacturer.

Abstract: Methods and systems for coating metal substrates are provided. The methods and systems include sequential application of low flow and high flow powder coatings followed by a single heating step to provide a cured coating. The methods and systems include a marker that allows coating uniformity to be monitored and assessed during application. The described methods provide coatings with optimal surface smoothness and edge coverage.

Abstract: A system and method for coating a substrate, the system including integrated powder coating material preparation and deposition of powder coating material onto a substrate. The system includes a feed input that processes the powder coating materials for use in a filament extension atomizer. The filament extension atomizer stretches fluid filaments of the powder coating material to form droplets of powder coating material. The droplets of powder coating material are partially cooled to prevent agglomeration and to form a powder coating material suitable for electrostatic deposition. The cooled powder coating material is electrostatically charged and directed onto the substrate surface, where it is deposited due to the electrostatic potential between the substrate and cooled droplets. The deposited powder coating material is then cured to the substrate to form a cohesive film of coating material across the substrate.
