Abstract: A variety of medical devices including staples sutures and dental floss with surface treatment on at least one tissue-facing surface to improve biologic function such as to control tissue adhesion are disclosed including heparin surface treatment which provides heparin present in an amount to yield heparin bioactivity of at least one of i) an ATIII binding of at least 2 pmol/cm2, and ii) a thrombin deactivation of at least 0.2 IU/cm2; an acrylic surface treatment for coupling thereto of a heparin surface treatment, a collagen surface treatment or both; and an amino-functional polysiloxane surface treatment for coupling thereto of a heparin surface treatment.

Abstract: A method of creating decorative artwork including providing a wall-mountable substrate having a paint-receiving upper surface and a wall-mounting surface opposite the paint-receiving upper surface, applying a first coat of resin to the paint-receiving upper surface, applying a metallic substance to the paint-receiving upper surface, and applying a sealer including a quantity of volatile organic compounds to the paint-receiving upper surface at a velocity sufficient to disperse at least one of the first coat of resin and the metallic substance in a plurality of directions with respect to the paint-receiving upper surface to create at least one decorative marking.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a functional film and a method for manufacturing the same, the functional film being organically and inorganically laminated to have a desired function such as high gas barrier performance and having high adhesiveness between inorganic and organic layers. The organic layer on top of the inorganic layer contains an organic solvent; an organic compound formed of the organic layer; and a silane coupling agent with a concentration between 0.1 and 25 percentages by mass excluding the organic solvent, the organic layer uses a coating material not containing a pH controller, and the organic layer is formed through curing via a heating process after coating.

Abstract: Elastomer-based soft-robotic micro-tentacles capable of winding around and holding microscale objects and methods of fabricating same are provided. To realize the thin, highly deformable microtubes, a fabrication technique based on in situ thermal solidification of PDMS dip-coated around a cylindrical template and direct peeling of the cured structure is presented. This process is capable to asymmetrize the microtube's cross-sectional shape and enable the microtube to bend up to a single turn. To amplify the bending into a life-like, multi-turn spiraling motion, a semi-analytical model to shape-engineer the microtube and turn it into a micro-tentacle was produced. As a result, a hump is added to the microtube to enable the multi-turn spiraling motion.

The outer layer can be formed from a quantity of material that is disposed overtop of the indicia layer such that the one or more indicia of the indicia layer are substantially encapsulated. Gas spring assemblies, suspension systems, methods of manufacture and manufacturing systems are also included.

Abstract: An object of the present invention is to provide a method for forming a multilayer coating film, the method making it possible to obtain, with excellent curability at low temperatures and in a short period of time, a multilayer coating film exhibiting an excellent finished appearance. The present invention provides a method for forming a multilayer coating film, wherein a substrate is sequentially coated with at least one layer of one or more base coating compositions, and with one or more clear coating compositions, the method being characterized by utilizing a clear coating composition containing a hydroxy-containing acrylic resin (A) having a hydroxy value in a specific range; a polyisocyanate compound (B) having a viscosity in a specific range; and an organometallic catalyst (C) containing a metallic compound (C1) in which the metal is a member selected from the group consisting of zinc, tin, zirconium, bismuth, lead, cobalt, manganese, titanium, aluminum, and molybdenum, and an amidine compound (C2).

Abstract: An image recording method includes a process of applying an ink containing a pigment to a recording medium, and a process of applying a liquid composition containing organic acid to the recording medium in such a manner as to be at least partially overlapped with a region to which the ink is applied. The content (% by mass) of the organic acid in the liquid composition is 10% by mass or more based on the total amount of the liquid composition. The content (% by mass) of an organic solvent in the liquid composition is 5% by mass or more based on the total amount of the liquid composition. The content (% by mass) of an organic solvent having a hydroxyl group in the liquid composition is 4% by mass or less based on the total amount of the liquid composition.

Abstract: Provided are a graphene structure and a method for producing the same in which graphene can be patterned with high precision, and thereby microfabrication of electronic device elements and electronic devices using graphene is possible and the manufacturing cost can be notably reduced. A resist film is precisely patterned on a substrate, hydrophilized films are formed in openings of the resist film, and then GO is selectively fixed on the portions of the hydrophilized films by a chemical bond utilizing the hydrophilicity of the GO, and the GO is reduced to obtain a graphene structure in which graphene is selectively fixed to only the portions of the hydrophilized films. Thus, the graphene structure is constituted by disposing graphene on a substrate and forming a bond, by hydrophilization treatment, between the hydrophilized portion of the substrate and the graphene and/or between the unhydrophobized portion of the substrate and the graphene.
