Optical systems utilize waveplates to simultaneously encode information for increasing image depth of field and for providing a depth map of the imaged object or sample. These waveplates are configured to result in a focus-invariant point spread function in one focal region, and to result in point spread functions that vary as a function of range within the imaged object in a different focal region. For example, a basic compound microscope might have a specially shaped waveplate inserted at the back aperture plane of the microscope objective to manipulate the phase of the wavefront. An image formed on one side of the plane of best focus is focus invariant, and is brought into focus by a restoring algorithm. An image formed on the other side of the plane of best focus captures point spread functions comprising rings that vary with depth within the imaged object.

A Learning Guard System protects the attention of students in a classroom by requiring the student to download an ‘app’ from the Learning Guard website. During installation the ‘app’ requires the student to provide their name and a list of emergency contacts which are stored in the memory of the smart phone and by the Learning Guard cloud database. When a student enters a classroom doorway cube transmitter mounted thereon interacts with the ‘app in the smart phone to thereby acquire the smart phone ID and turn off the smart phone functionality, including voice, text communication, Internet access, playing music and videos. An identification system that may be used in heterogeneous computing environments provides a fail-free path to providing identifiers from a single canonical namespace. Objects or gateways requiring an identifier for access are accessed using an identifier for the canonical namespace. If an entity requests access using an identifier from another namespace, an external database is consulted to determine if a mapping exists for the identifier to another identifier the canonical namespace. If no mapping exists, or the external database is unavailable, then an identifier is automatically generated in the canonical namespace and is used for the access. An internal database is updated with the automatically generated identifier, providing a mechanism to add mappings without administrative intervention. To access resources requiring an identifier from another particular namespace, a canonical namespace identifier may be mapped to another identifier in the particular namespace, or a generic identifier may be used.

A two-gate sampling system has been designed to perform sampled balanced detection of one or more input signal pairs. The present invention performs simultaneous sampling of both signals in each signal pair followed by digitization and combination of the sample pairs using software. By first sampling the signals and then combining the sampled into the corresponding balanced detected signal it is possible to avoid the bandwidth limitations and impedance problems introduced by traditional balanced detectors and electrical oscilloscopes. In particular, for optical sampling gates very high bandwidth sampling gates can be designed without any impedance issues and hence almost perfect balanced detection reconstruction can be performed for very high speed signals. Balanced detection is becoming more and more important as the new phase modulated optical data signals are introduced to the market, such as e.g. PSK, DPSK, QPSK and DQPSK. The present invention is well suited for analysis of these new types of signals.

The present invention provides a precoding method for use in a wireless communications system. According to the precoding method of the present invention, a serving base station and cooperative communication base stations employ an identical precoding matrix so as to weight transmission signals and then transmit them. The weighting stands for multiplication of results of overall precoding or each layer precoding process by weight values at the serving base station and the cooperative communication base stations. A user device corresponding to the serving base station and the cooperative communication base stations receives a signal which is obtained by an operation in which the serving base station and the cooperative communication base stations perform an identical precoding process and additively combine results of overall precoding or each layer precoding process with one another. The user device feeds back information which includes (i) precoding matrix information for the serving base station and the cooperative communication base stations, (ii) weight vector information for either overall precoding or layer precoding, and (iii) a quantized value of channel quality. This feedback information is thus advantageous in that its signaling information amount is small.

Apparatus and methods advantageously maintain transistors of open-drain differential pairs biased in the saturation region when “active,” rather in than the triode or linear region. The biasing techniques are effective over a broad range of process, voltage, and temperature (PVT) variations. By controlling a high voltage level used to drive the gate of a transistor of the differential pair, the biasing of the transistor in the saturation region is maintained. In one embodiment, the low voltage level used to cut off the transistor of the differential pair is also controlled. These techniques advantageously permit differential drivers to exhibit relatively large output swings, relatively high edge rates, relatively high return loss, and relatively good efficiency.

One or more techniques for buffer offset modulation or buffer offset cancelling are provided herein. In an embodiment, an output for a sigma-delta analog digital converter (ADC) is provided using an output of a first chop-able buffer (FB) and an output of a second chop-able buffer (SB). For example, the output of the FB is associated with a first offset, the output of the SB is associated with a second offset, and the output of the ADC includes an ADC offset associated with the first offset and the second offset. In an embodiment, buffer offset modulation is provided by modulating the ADC offset using an offset rotation. In an example, the offset rotation is based at least in part on a reference clock and the output of the ADC. The buffer offset modulation mitigates the first offset or the second offset, where such offsets are generally undesired.
