Mechanisms for saving power by powering down an instruction fetch array based on capacity history information of an instruction buffer are provided. The mechanisms operate to receive a current access to an instruction buffer of a processor. The current access is a fetch of a group of one or more instructions to be stored in the instruction buffer. A determination is made, for one or more prior accesses occurring prior to the current access, if a predetermined pattern of capacity availability of the instruction buffer indicates that the instruction buffer is likely to have available capacity to store the group of one or more instructions of the current access. An instruction fetch unit array is powered down in response to a determination that the instruction buffer is not likely to have available capacity to store the group of one or more instructions of the current access.

A central processing unit (CPU) can specify an initial (e.g., baseline) frequency for a clock signal used by a device to perform a task. The CPU is then placed in a reduced power mode. The device performs the task after the CPU is placed in the reduced power mode until a triggering event causes the device to send an interrupt to the CPU. In response to the interrupt, the CPU awakens to dynamically adjust the clock frequency. If the clock frequency is reset to the baseline value, then the CPU is again placed in the reduced power mode.

In a data center which includes a plurality of servers, a discovery computer, a power measurement system (PMS), and a plurality of power-circuits which supply power to the servers, the discovery computer performs the following actions for each server. It transmits a first command to the server causing the server to start generating a power consumption signature if the server is able to do so. Upon receiving a SUCCESS response from the server, it instructs the PMS to start measuring the power consumption from each power-circuit. After a prescribed interval of time has elapsed, it collects the measurements from the PMS and analyzes the measurements to look for the presence of the signature. Upon detecting the signature in the measurement taken from a particular power-circuit, the discovery computer concludes that the server is connected to the particular power-circuit and creates a mapping there-between.

Counting values can be encrypted as a set of counting value cyphertexts according to a hidden vector encryption scheme using sample values of a set of samples, where each of the samples can include multiple sample values. Additionally, tokens can be generated. The tokens can be configured according to the hidden vector encryption scheme, such that each of the tokens can enable decryption of matching cyphertexts. Processing of the counting value cyphertexts and the tokens can be delegated to a map-reduce computer cluster. The cluster can run a map-reduce program to produce and return count representations. Each count representation can represent a count of a set of the counting value cyphertext(s) whose decryption was enabled by one or more of the token(s). For example, the counts may be counts that can be used in constructing a data structure such as a decision tree.

A method for memory space management is disclosed. It uses a resident program loaded into an operation system or the controller of a storage device to monitor the storage space and the resource allocation of the file system of the storage device. The status of the logical address with an erased and invalid data mapped with a physical block is checked via a L2P mapping table. By using a data erase instruction, the controller modifies the L2P mapping table to cancel the link relation between the physical block and the logical address and erase the physical block to release the memory space. Finally, the check location is stored for a next check. The method for memory space management improves the access speed and the usage life of the storage device.

A hash-optimized backup system and method takes data blocks and generates a probabilistically unique digital fingerprint of the content of each data block using a substantially collision-free algorithm. The process compares the generated fingerprint to a database of stored fingerprints and, if the generated fingerprint matches a stored fingerprint, the data block is determined to already have been backed up, and therefore does not need to be backed up again. Only if the generated fingerprint does not match a stored fingerprint is the data block backed up, at which point the generated fingerprint is added to the database of stored fingerprints. Because the algorithm is substantially collision-free, there is no need to compare actual data content if there is a hash-value match. The process can also be used to audit software license compliance, inventory software, and detect computer-file tampering such as viruses and malware.

Techniques introduced herein allow writeable PPIs to be re-used. A writeable PPI manager can make use of existing writeable PPIs to offer logical units to clients without creating additional writeable PPIs. The writeable PPI manager can determine which writeable PPIs to re-use by testing the writeable PPIs for a variety of conditions. Advantageously, re-use of remaining logical units reduces unnecessary replication of data and increased overhead costs. Resources can thereby be conserved.

An overlay protocol and system for allowing multicast routing in the Internet to be performed at the application level. The overlay protocol uses “native” Internet multicast and multicast routing protocols to route information, according to overlay routing tables. Overlay groups are mapped to native multicast groups to exploit native multicasting in regional or local forwarding domains. Use of the overlay protocol allows overlay distribution to be handled in a more intelligent and bandwidth-managed fashion. Overlay routers are placed at each of several local area networks, Internet service provider's point of presence, enterprise, or other cohesively-managed locations. The overlay computers are configured according to bandwidth and security policies, and perform application-level multicast distribution across the otherwise disjoint multicast networks by using the overlay routing. The result is an overlay multicast network that is effectively managed according to local network management policies. Application-level control can be applied to the transferred data at the overlay routers.

Various embodiments of systems and methods for data message exchange in a client server network are described herein. In various embodiments, a client and a server network may implement a data message protocol for message exchanges. A method of an embodiment ensures message delivery, acknowledge message delivery, message delivery in a specific order, resending of lost data messages, and the like. In various embodiments, such data exchange may optimize data transmission and resource consumption in a client server network. A server can store data messages in a buffer and resend them only when requested by the client, as in the case of lost or out of sequence data message. A client with limited storage space need not concern itself with storing data messages and processing them at a later point in time. Furthermore, a client may optimize data transmission by acknowledging bulk data messages, rather than acknowledging them individually.

The present invention is directed to voice communication devices in which an audio stream is divided into a sequence of individual packets, each of which is routed via pathways that can vary depending on the availability of network resources. All embodiments of the invention rely on an acoustic prioritization agent that assigns a priority value to the packets. The priority value is based on factors such as whether the packet contains voice activity and the degree of acoustic similarity between this packet and adjacent packets in the sequence. A confidence level, associated with the priority value, may also be assigned. In one embodiment, network congestion is reduced by deliberately failing to transmit packets that are judged to be acoustically similar to adjacent packets; the expectation is that, under these circumstances, traditional packet loss concealment algorithms in the receiving device will construct an acceptably accurate replica of the missing packet. In another embodiment, the receiving device can reduce the number of packets stored in its jitter buffer, and therefore the latency of the speech signal, by selectively deleting one or more packets within sustained silences or non-varying speech events. In both embodiments, the ability of the system to drop appropriate packets may be enhanced by taking into account the confidence levels associated with the priority assessments.
