Diastolic function is monitored within a patient based on dynamic cardiogenic impedance as measured by a pacemaker or other implantable medical device. In one example, the device uses ventricular cardiogenic impedance values to detect E-wave parameters representative of passive filling of the ventricles. Atrial cardiogenic impedance values are used to detect A-wave parameters representative of active filling of the ventricles. Diastolic function is then assessed or evaluated based on the E-wave and A-wave parameters. Various functions of the implantable device are then controlled based on the assessment of diastolic function, such as by adjusting atrioventricular delay parameters to improve diastolic function. In some examples, the detection of E- and A-wave parameters is achieved by aligning impedance signals to atrial activation, and separately to ventricular activation, during asynchronous VOO pacing or while artificially inducing a 2:1 block.

Focal and segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) is a kidney disorder of unknown etiology and up to 20% of patients on dialysis have this diagnosis. A large family with hereditary FSGS carries a missense mutation in the TRPC6 gene on chromosome 11q, encoding the ion channel protein Transient Receptor Potential Cation Channel 6. The missense mutation is a P112Q substitution, which occurs in a highly conserved region of the protein, enhances TRPC6-mediated calcium signals in response to agonists such as angiotensin II, and alters the intracellular distribution of TRPC6 protein. Previous work has emphasized the importance of cytoskeletal and structural proteins in proteinuric kidney diseases. Our findings suggest a novel mechanism for glomerular disease pathogenesis.

Systems and methods are described for managing communications of an access node and a relay node. A utilization of a first frequency band that is used for communication between a relay node and wireless devices may be monitored. The relay node may also communicate with an access node to connect to a network. It may be determined that the monitored utilization meets a utilization criteria. One of a second frequency band and a third frequency band may be selected for the relay node based on the determination that the monitored utilization meets the utilization criteria. The selected frequency band may be allocated for communication between the relay node and wireless devices.

Methods for operating real-time wireless networks enable robust medium access strategies for communicating nodes in the network. A given wireless channel is divided into several sub-carriers, with each node assigned to a subset of sub-carriers. A master wireless node uses different subsets of the sub-carriers to communication with two or more slave wireless nodes simultaneously. The method includes generation of preambles that are robust to interference and multipath conditions. The method also enables communication within a maximum predetermined latency bound.

The present invention is designed to prevent the decrease of capacity even when the ratio of uplink subframes and downlink subframes is changed in each component carrier in TDD carrier aggregation. With the radio communication method according to the present invention, a radio base station apparatus generates a downlink control channel signal containing downlink control information including carrier indicator field information, and transmits the downlink control channel signal to a user terminal, and the user terminal receives the downlink control channel signal and executes signal processing with respect to the downlink signal in accordance with the downlink control information. In this case, the carrier indicator field information is information which associates a carrier index and the number of subframes to schedule victim subframes.

Methods and apparatus for estimating mobile station location include receiving reported signal strengths or other attachment indicator values from a mobile station. The reported signal strengths are compared with characteristic received signal strength values in a coverage area of a mobile network. A mobile switching center determines if a local function is requested and initiates a location estimation process by a mobile location module (MLM). The MLM receives the reported signal strength contours associated with the attachment points. Based on a comparison of the reported attachment indicator values with characteristic values, the MLM provides a mobile location estimate.

The claimed technology provides a new method and process for locating and sharing information regarding the location of checked-in luggage while traveling. As part of the claimed technology, a GSM device is placed into luggage to be checked in by the traveler at the airline counter. A mobile device such as a phone or tablet lets the traveler know that their luggage has arrived in sync with the air flight. If the luggage has not arrived, the claimed technology notifies both traveler and airline of the airport location of the luggage, and proactively triggers the airline to coordinate with the passenger for delivery of the luggage.
