Using as a vehicle body reinforcing member a bent tube with mixed bends of inward and outward projection according to the present invention makes it possible, during a vehicle body collision, to absorb more energy than and exhibit better impact resistance than a vehicle body reinforcing member that uses one of a known straight tube and a curved tube of radius R entirely. Thus the dimensions (outside diameter, wall thickness) of the steel tube that is used as the vehicle body reinforcing member can be reduced, and the tube shape can be modified, while impact resistance is maintained. Modifying the shape in this manner makes it possible to provide the ever higher required level of vehicle body impact resistance at the same time that it reduces the weight of the vehicle body and lowers the cost. The present invention can therefore be widely used as an occupant protection technology.

During a migration or installation of a software application (e.g., a security software application), a computer can be left vulnerable to attack by malicious code. However, a computer can be protected during an installation process by disabling routes through which a malicious attack might occur. More specifically, a determination module determines that the installation process for the security software application will be performed. When the installation process begins, a communication disabling module disables substantially all communication through external network connection ports for the computer that are unneeded for the installation process. In some embodiments, a process restriction module also restricts execution of processes which are not associated with the installation of the security software application. An installation module allows the installation process for the security software application to be performed on the computer. A communication reopening module then reopens the communication through the external network connection ports upon completion of the installation process.

User operates a selection switch to instruct temporary activation of an application. For the application of which the temporary activation has been instructed, a CPU of a console allocates resources necessary for signal processing by a DSP of an engine and for a parameter editing function of the console. In the DSP, a bypass parameter is set to ON. Thus, there is provided a state capable of accepting various parameter setting operation related to the application, but the signal processing based on the application program is prevented from being started in a substantive manner. In response to a full activation instruction of an application via a full activation instruction switch, the bypass parameter is set to OFF, so that audio signal processing based on the application can be started. In this way, preparatory work for setting parameters related to the application can be performed efficiently.

A system that safely executes a native code module on a computing device. During operation, the system receives the native code module, which is comprised of untrusted native program code expressed using native instructions in the instruction set architecture associated with the computing device. The system then loads the native code module into a secure runtime environment, and proceeds to execute a set of instructions from the native code module in the secure runtime environment. The secure runtime environment enforces code integrity, control-flow integrity, and data integrity for the native code module. Furthermore, the secure runtime environment moderates which resources can be accessed by the native code module on the computing device and/or how these resources can be accessed. By executing the native code module in the secure runtime environment, the system facilitates achieving native code performance for untrusted program code without a significant risk of unwanted side effects.

The disclosure herein provides data security on a parallel computer system using virtual private networks connecting the nodes of the system. A mechanism sets up access control data in the nodes that describes a number of security classes. Each security class is associated with a virtual network. Each user on the system is associated with one of the security classes. Each database object to be protected is given an attribute of a security class. Database objects are loaded into the system nodes that match the security class of the database object. When a query executes on the system, the query is sent to a particular class or set of classes such that the query is only seen by those nodes that are authorized by the equivalent security class. In this way, the network is used to isolate data from users that do not have proper authorization to access the data.

Methods and computer-readable media are provided for refreshing a page validation token. In response to a request for a form from a client, a server responds with the requested form, a page validation token, and a page token refresh program. The client executes the page token refresh program in response to a request to post the contents of the form to the server computer. The page token refresh program determines whether a preset period of time has elapsed since server computer generated the page validation token. If the period of time has not elapsed, the form is posted to the server with the page validation token and processed by the server computer. If the page timeout has elapsed, the page token refresh program refreshes the page validation token prior to posting the form by requesting an updated page validation token from the server.

The method determines whether a particular process is currently executing or not executing. The method embeds process identification information and a process name in a process pathname that binds to a socket. The method creates a socket and binds to the socket a process name and associated process identifier if that process is currently executing. A status file may store the socket pathnames of those processes currently executing. A socket pathname appears in the status file if a corresponding process is executing, but does not appear in the status file if the process is not executing. To determine if a particular process is currently executing, the method tests the status file to determine if the status file contains a match for the socket pathname associated with the particular process under test. The presence of a match for the socket pathname in the status file indicates that the particular process associated therewith is currently executing.

Two levels of error correction decoding are performed using first and second level decoders. A composite code formed by combining an inner component code and an outer component code can be used to decode the data and correct any errors. Performing two level decoding using a composite code allows the size of the inner parity block to be reduced to a single Reed-Solomon symbol while keeping a good code rate. The first level decoder generates soft information. The soft information can indicate a most likely error event for each possible syndrome value of the inner component code. The soft information can also include error metric values for each of the most likely error events. The second level decoder generates corrected syndrome values based on the soft information using the outer component code. The most likely trellis path that corresponds to the corrected syndrome values is then selected.

An address signal generating circuit generates an address signal which designates the address in memory to be accessed. An inversion inhibition signal generating unit generates multiple patterns of inversion inhibition signals each having the same bit width as that of the address signal, and each having a function of preventing particular bits of the address signal from being inverted. A selector selects one of the multiple patterns of inversion inhibition signals generated by the inversion inhibition signal generating unit, and outputs the inversion inhibition signal thus selected. When an inversion control signal is asserted, an address signal inverting circuit inverts only the bits of the address signal which are not prevented from being inverted according to the inversion inhibition signal selected by the selector, and outputs the resulting address signal.

A method for reorganizing a catalog to improve I/O performance includes initially placing a shared lock on a source catalog. The method then makes a point-in-time copy of the source catalog to generate a target catalog. Once the target catalog is generated, the method reorganizes the contents of the target catalog. Optionally, while reorganizing the contents of the target catalog, the method temporarily releases the shared lock on the source catalog and mirrors I/O intended for the source catalog to a buffer. The buffered I/O may then be used to update the target catalog to bring it current with the source catalog. When the target catalog is reorganized and up-to-date, the method upgrades the shared lock on the source catalog to an exclusive lock, overwrites the source catalog with the target catalog, and releases the exclusive lock. A corresponding apparatus and computer program product are also disclosed and claimed herein.

A heater energization control apparatus. When an engine is stopped, a microcomputer of a GCU enters a power save mode. When the microcomputer returns to a normal mode in response to an interruption signal periodically generated from an interruption timer, the microcomputer supplies electricity to a heating resistor for a short time and obtains its resistance (S19). When the resistance is greater than a first reference value, the microcomputer determines that a glow plug is removed from the engine; that is, the glow plug is being exchanged (S29). The microcomputer sets an exchange flag to “1” (S30), and performs calibration for the heating resistor of a new glow plug after the engine is operated next time (S35). When the current resistance becomes smaller than the past resistance, the microcomputer determines that the glow plug has been exchanged.

The present invention provides a way to more effectively estimate energy usage by devices such as servers, including traditional mainframes as well as other enterprise systems. One core idea surrounds the fact that when detailed power consumption information is unavailable for a specific configuration, power consumption is computed/projected/estimated by de-rating the maximum power rating by a power adjustment factor that would more closely project the true power consumption. Under this approach, the power consumption is then provided as a range specifying probable expected lower and upper limits for a given device. This range is more meaningful for planning and decision-making and shows the client a more likely best and worst case energy consumption scenario for their specific device(s), and hence is helpful for planning or server comparison decisions. Cooling, energy costs, energy efficiency, and energy expanded per MIPS are also projected and given as a range instead of a single number. This gives the IT decision maker more accurate information upon which to base IT decision-making.
