This invention concerns patentable devices configured to capture cancer stem cells and cell clusters. After capturing such cells and/or clusters, the cancerous cells are subjected to whole genome sequencing. The resulting genomic sequence information is then compared to that for “normal” or non-diseased tissue (obtained, for example, from either the same patient, or a population sample, etc.) in order to identify the specific genetic mutation(s) present in the CSCs. Further analysis then correlates the genetic mutations with cell growth signaling pathways typically found with tumor metastases. Armed with this information, an oncologist can then develop a specifically targeted therapy that utilizes approved drugs or drug candidates undergoing clinical testing to address the identified driver mutations and thus effect a “targeted” therapy tailored to the particular patient's disease.

Disclosed herein is a kerf of a winter tire capable of easily discharging snow therefrom and further improving braking performance and drainage performance on a wet road. The kerf includes a kerf inlet portion formed in the shape of a sawtooth-type zigzag wave in a block of one of a tread and a shoulder of the tire in the circumferential direction of the tire, a pipe-shaped flow passage portion formed in a lower portion of the block and having a width that is greater than or equal to the width of the kerf inlet portion, and a connection channel for connecting the kerf inlet portion and the flow passage portion to each other. The sawtooth-type zigzag wave has an amplitude that gradually decreases in the depth direction of the block, and the connection channel has a width that gradually decreases from the kerf inlet portion to the flow passage portion.

The present invention embraces printers such as hand-held printers and mobile/portable printer. One exemplary embodiment includes “print as you glide” (PAYG) devices. Such printers may comprise a modular print engine that is removable from the printer and may allow a user to easily access and load the ribbon in the mobile print engine. The modular print engine may comprise a modular print head and an encoder that may determine the movement of the print head relative to a stationary media. When a printer is pressed against the media, the print head's burn line may be resting on the media. When the printer is stationary relative to the media, the encoder may not trigger the printing. Once PAYG is being slid or glided across the media, the encoder may start to rotate and then send a signal to a processor, causing the printer to start printing.

An image recording apparatus for recording an image on a sheet includes a recording section which records the image on the sheet in a transport passage for transporting the sheet in a transport direction and multiple plates which are spaced apart from each other in a widthwise direction. These multiple plates include a first type of plate and a second type of plate. Plates of a first type of plate are configured to overlap a sheet when viewed in a direction perpendicular to the transport direction and the widthwise direction, while plates of the second type of plate do not.

A printer includes a main body having a first opening through which a roll of paper can be inserted for installation within the main body and a second opening through which a roll of paper can be inserted for installation within the main body, a first cover configured to open and close the first opening, a second cover configured to open and close the second opening, a printing head attached to the first cover and configured to print an image on paper supplied from the roll of paper, and a roller attached to the second cover and configured to convey the paper from the roll of paper installed within the main body to the printing head. The paper is conveyed by the roller and printing is performed by the printing head when both the first and second covers are closed.

A method for operating a device for printing hollow cylinder is provided. The device comprises a rotating segmented wheel with a plurality of printing cylinders arranged successively along the periphery of the device. A plurality of plate cylinders are provided in association with the segmented wheel. According to a printing process to be performed, a selected quantity of plate cylinders is thrown onto the segment wheel or is thrown off the segment wheel. In a first printing process, a first partial quantity of thrown-on plate cylinders transfers printing ink to a plurality of the printing blankets arranged on the segment wheel. At the end of the printing process, at least some of the plate cylinders, that were thrown on the segment wheel in the first printing process, are thrown off the rotating segment wheel. During constant uninterrupted rotation of the segment wheel, for the implementation of a second printing process, a second partial quantity of plate cylinders is thrown onto the segment wheel and respectively transfer printing ink to a plurality of the printing blankets arranged on the segment wheel. The respective printing forme of at least one plate cylinder involved in the first printing process, and uninvolved in the ongoing second printing process, is changed during the ongoing printing process.

Peel ply for surface preparation and a method of surface preparation prior to adhesive bonding. A resin-rich peel ply is applied onto a curable, resin-based composite substrate, followed by co-curing. After co-curing, the composite substrate is fully cured but the matrix resin in the peel ply remains partially cured. When the peel ply is removed, a roughened, bondable surface with chemically-active functional groups is revealed. The composite substrate with the chemically-active, bondable surface may be bonded to another composite substrate to form a covalently-bonded structure.

A method is provided for the preparation of a semifinished product made of fiber material with an upper side and with an underside prior to a wet-pressing process. The method includes following steps: arrangement of a semifinished product made of fiber material with the underside on a preparation area with a large number of suction apertures, application of a reduced pressure to the underside of the semifinished product by way of the suction apertures, and introduction of a flowable matrix material by way of the upper side of the semifinished product.

Techniques, processes and structures are disclosed for providing markings on products, such as electronic devices. For example, the markings can be formed using physical vapor deposition (PVD) processes to deposit a layer of material. The markings or labels may be textual and/or graphic. The markings are deposited on a compliant layer that is disposed on a surface to be marked. The compliant layer is arranged to isolate the surface to be marked from the layer of material deposited using the PVD process.
