The invention relates to a method for the carbon coating of metallic nanoparticles. The metallic nanoparticles, which are produced using the metal-salt hydrogen-reduction method, can be coated with carbon by adding a hydrocarbon (for example, ethylene, ethane, or acetylene) to the hydrogen using in the synthesis. The carbon layer protects the metallic particles from oxidation, which greatly facilitates the handling and further processing of the particles. By altering the concentration of the hydrocarbon, it is possible, in addition, to influence the size of the metallic particles created, because the coating takes place simultaneously with the creation of the particles, thus stopping the growth process. A carbon coating at most two graphene layers thick behaves like a semiconductor. As a thicker layer, the coating is a conductor. If the hydrocarbon concentration is further increased, a metal-CNT composite material is formed in the process. The composite materials developed are in themselves suitable as the raw materials of, for example, metallic inks and sensor materials.

A method and mechanism to reduce the energy consumption of a single-carrier wireless transmission system such as a base station or a subnet of multiple base stations in relation to the loading of the system. Energy savings may be achieved by withholding the transmission of the system over some time slots, decreasing the available frequencies for user traffic transmission, dynamically adjusting the system to a lower bandwidth, or a combination of these techniques in proportion to the system transmission load at a given time. The lower the system load, the more transmission resources may be withheld or reduced, and, hence, the more savings in energy consumption. Energy savings may be most prominent during periods of low traffic loading of the single carrier-based wireless transmission system.

A method and apparatus for controlling measuring the frequency of a new cell within a forbidden registration area when a User Equipment (UE) enters into the new cell in a mobile communication system are provided. If the UE recognizes the new registration area as forbidden, the UE does not measure the frequency of the current cell for a predetermined reference time, and searches for a suitable cell for a normal service by measuring other frequencies. If no suitable cell in the other frequencies is found, the UE removes a measuring limitation and searches for an acceptable cell for a limited service by measuring frequencies including frequency of the current cell.

The extension REC device includes an extension signal processor and a digital processor. The extension signal processor receives the switch request from the extension signal processor of the REC device. In response to the received switch request, the digital processor sets the parameters of the REC device in the extension REC device, and establishes a link to a RE.

An electric field intensity measuring circuit measures the electric field intensity of each of multiple communication channels available for data communication. A channel determiner compares electric field intensities measured by an electric field intensity measuring circuit with multiple different thresholds including a first threshold as the carrier sense threshold and a second threshold that is the detrimental interference level the interference of which causes the reception sensitivity to deteriorate, counts the numbers of times that the electric field intensity exceeds the thresholds on each communication channel, and selects a communication channel for use based on the counted numbers of times that the thresholds have been exceeded on the communication channels.

Methods and apparatus for performing radio resource management (RRM) measurements in a heterogeneous network (HetNet) are provided in an effort to prevent failure of RRM measurement procedures in a dominant interference scenario. Several alternatives are provided for determining particular resources (e.g., subframes) to use for performing the RRM measurements, wherein the particular resources are based on cooperative resource partitioning between cells of the HetNet, wherein the cells may be of different types (e.g., macro, pico, or femto cells). These alternatives include, for example: (1) intra-frequency or intra-RAT (radio access technology) alternatives, which may involve transmitting resource partitioning information (RPI) in or deriving non-serving cell RPI based on the serving cell's RPI, as well as (2) inter-frequency or inter-RAT alternatives, where the RRM measurements may be performed during a measurement gap.

A method, system, and medium are provided for increasing carrier-to-interference-and-noise ratio (CINR) gain in a long-term-evolution network deploying beam forming (BF) technologies. Adjacent eNodeBs, each serving a respective user equipment (UE) located at the boundary between the two eNodeBs, communicate BF parameters to each other. Each eNodeB uses the received BF parameters to adjust its DL transmission beam in order to decrease the interference at each of the respective UEs. By adjusting the DL transmission beam to decrease interference, CINR gain at the UEs is correspondingly increased.

A communication device, a communication method and a communication system that enable an increase in channel capacity at cell edges of a plurality of cells. Data transmission is implemented by transmission stations, which are base stations of adjacent cells, by MIMO transmission. A relay station receives radio waves that are transmitted by both the transmission station and the transmission station, and acquires data transmitted by the transmission station and data transmitted by the transmission station. The relay station transmits data to reception stations in adjacent cells according to multi-user MIMO transmission. The data transmitted by the transmission station is received by the reception station via the relay station, and the data transmitted by the transmission station is received by the reception station via the relay station. The present invention can be used in cellular systems.

QoS aware multi radio access point for operation in TV whitespaces is disclosed. The present invention relates to operation of access points and, particularly, to operation of access points in TV whitespaces. The AP is configured to intelligently choose the radios, determine available whitespaces in the spectrum and allocate radios to the available whitespaces in the spectrum. The method determines clients that need to be serviced by the AP and assigns each client associated with AP to one of the radios. In addition, the method also takes care of QoS requirements for different services and hence every service is addressed to satisfy its QoS requirements. The method ensures that there is maximum utilization of available whitespace spectrum by accounting for the spectrum specific characteristics. The method considers bands for operation are spread across the spectrum and allocates the clients based on the availability of bands throughout the spectrum.
