The invention belongs to the field studying the devices for soil and water conservation. The invention involves a topography-meter host based on integrative mainboards, which dynamically observe the landform in real-time and three-dimensions. The linear laser sources are accurately positioned with Ohm-shaped clamps, so as to emit parallel and equidistant laser-planes projecting onto a terrain in an experiment. The positions of the laser-sources on the mainboards are fixed with the Ohm-shaped clamps. The clamps do not only realize the convenient adjustment of the emission angle and spacing distance of the adjacent laser-sources, but also ensure a high accuracy of the positions and angles of the laser-sources even if the topography-meter host is moved. Several multi-segmented cases are freely spliced to observe the landforms with different heights in real-time. The invention is a novel topography-meter host which conveniently and accurately fixes the spacing distances and emission angles of the laser-sources, and the invention also satisfies the requirement in observing the landforms with different heights.

The drywall scaffold roller (“DSR”) is a lightweight tool weighing approximately two pounds that construction workers who hang drywall (or plywood) can use to roll the heavy material from the ground to the workers on a scaffold instead of lifting it themselves using their back, arms and legs, which causes injuries.Currently, a drywaller on the ground physically lifts a 100+ pound sheet of drywall, plywood or other heavy materials upwards as much as 20 feet to the person on the scaffold, who then has to lift and/or pull the materials up onto the scaffold. Both people must use their arms, knees, shoulders and back to lift the heavy material, and the worker on the scaffold sometimes uses his foot to slide the material up onto the scaffold. The DSR helps eliminate this unsafe lifting procedure by providing a rolling mechanism to roll the sheet of material instead of lifting it. This takes most of the weight of the heavy material off the workers, making it safer and easier, and possibly reducing arm, shoulder, back and foot injuries from manually lifting the heavy sheet of drywall. It is an inexpensive way for drywall and construction companies to more likely than not reduce the number of workplace injuries and worker's compensation claims.

Systems and methods of selective driver coaching are provided. Driver coaching systems learn the characteristics of a deceleration event. With the goal of increasing recouped energy while operating a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV), driver coaching systems predict when the HEV can begin coasting at the start of the deceleration event. In this way, the amount of time during which regenerative braking can be applied may be increased. Coaching cues are provided to the driver so that the HEV can be operated in way that achieves the goal of increasing recouped energy. However, engaging in excessive regenerative breaking can negate its advantages if the amount needed to reaccelerate the HEV to a cruising/steady speed is too great. Selective driver coaching provides coaching cues only if the operating efficiency of the HEV exceeds the operating efficiency of the HEV when controlled by the driver without coaching cues.

Methods, systems, and devices for managing robot resources are described. A robot receives from an application a request to reserve a particular set of physical resources of the robot. The robot then determines that each of the physical resources in the set are available to the application and, based on the determination, allocates exclusive use of the particular set of resources to the application by (i) generating a token corresponding to the set of resources, (ii) providing the token to the application, and (iii) updating token data that associates the token with the set of resources. The robot then controls access to the particular set of resources such that, while token data indicates that the token is valid, commands from applications that involve the set of resources are only executed when provided with the token corresponding to the allocation of access to the particular set of resources.

A machine learning system builds and uses computer models for controlling robotic performance of a task. Such computer models may be first trained using feedback on computer simulations of the robot performing the task, and then refined using feedback on real-world trials of the robot performing the task. Some examples of the computer models can be trained to automatically evaluate robotic task performance and provide the feedback. This feedback can be used by a machine learning system, for example an evolution strategies system or reinforcement learning system, to generate and refine the controller.

In a wire electric discharge machine, time from application of a voltage to a machining gap between a workpiece and a wire electrode until occurrence of electric discharge is measured as a discharge delay time, and the measured discharge delay time is integrated over a predetermined measurement period to calculate a discharge delay integrated time. Further, the number of times of the voltage application in the measurement period is counted. An average discharge delay time per voltage application in the measurement period is calculated from the discharge delay integrated time and the number of times of voltage application. The movement of the wire electrode with respect to the workpiece is controlled on the basis of the average discharge delay time.
