Disclosed herein is a notch filter and a method for generating an electrical signal with a suppressed frequency band. The filter generates an optical signal by modulating a modulation optical wave with an electrical signal to generate first and second sidebands. The first sideband or the second sideband has less power than the other. The filter then modifies the optical signal by equalizing the power of light within the first side band at a selected frequency band and light within the second side band at the selected frequency band. The filter then produces an antiphase relationship between the light within the first side band at the selected frequency band and the light within the second side band at the selected frequency band. The filter then detects the modified optical signal to generate a copy of the electrical signal with suppressed frequency components within the selected frequency band.

A jitter control circuit, which reduces conducted EMI noise by giving jitter (frequency diffusion) to the operating frequency for driving a switching element, determines an operating frequency fc (e.g., 40 kHz) at which reduction effects change from a feedback voltage that represents magnitude of a load. The jitter control circuit causes a, for example, 8-bit counter that generates a modulation frequency to operate with, for example, 8 bits when 40 kHz≦fc and 7 bits when fc<40 kHz. In this way, even when the range of the EMI noise measurement frequency is extended to the lower frequency side, for example, to 25 kHz, the maximum reduction effect is maintained in the entire frequency range. Thus, the maximum EMI noise reduction effect is obtained.

A user-specific, electroencephalogram data-based secure encryption generator maps artificial neural network neuron elements to electroencephalogram data signals generated from scanning neural activity of a user while the user executes a mental activity. Weighting factors are trained to transform the electroencephalogram data signals into a first set of weighted signals that are different from weighted signals generated from scanning neural activity of the user while the user executes another, different activity, and from weighted signals generated from scanning neural activity of another user while executing a similar mental activity. The trained weighting factors are associated with the first set of electroencephalogram data signals and the current mental activity. Thus, a reproducible electroencephalogram encryption key is defined that is unique to the user as a function of one or both of the trained weighting factors and the first weighted set of electroencephalogram data signals.

Techniques are described for displaying projects of images as “collages”. Collages differ from conventional thumbnail displays of projects in that collages display an entire project as if the project were a single image. Consequently, collages better convey the characteristics of projects as a whole, while de-emphasizing the distinctiveness of individual images within the projects. When displayed as collages, side-by-side comparisons may be readily performed between projects as a whole. For example, a single display may include collages for multiple projects, thereby allowing viewers to quickly tell how the projects differ in a variety of ways, including but not limited to size of shoot or density of shoot, dominant color, mood, time of day, bracketed shots or bursts, location and subject matter. The content of the collage for a project is based on the individual images that belong to the project. However, details of the individual images on which the project image is based may not be readily discernible from the collage. In addition, not all individual images that belong to a project may be used in a collage. Techniques for selecting which individual images of a project to include in the project are also described.

Operation identification is obtained from a captured barcode. An authentication criterion is determined whether is satisfied. If the authentication criterion is met, the operation identification and stored account information is sent to server for authenticating based on the account information. The authentication criterion includes whether a similarity degree between an image characteristic of a first surrounding image of a barcode and an image characteristic of a second surrounding image of the barcode is larger than or equal to a present threshold. The second surrounding image is an authenticated surrounding image of the barcode such as a surrounding image when the barcode is generated. The present techniques ensure that a successful authentication is possibly returned only when the first surrounding image is in consistent with the second image. It is difficult for the barcode placed on a fake webpage or sent through group sending by a hacker to pass authentication.

An image processing application performs improved face exposure correction on an input image. The image processing application receives an input image having a face and ascertains a median luminance associated with a face region corresponding to the face. The image processing application determines whether the median luminance is less than a threshold luminance. If the median luminance is less than the threshold luminance, the application computes weights based on a spatial distance parameter and a similarity parameter associated with the median chrominance of the face region. The image processing application then computes a corrected luminance using the weights and applies the corrected luminance to the input image. The image processing application can also perform improved face color correction by utilizing stylization-induced shifts in skin tone color to control how aggressively stylization is applied to an image.

A data processing apparatus and method are provided for processing execution threads, where each execution thread specifies at least one instruction. The data processing apparatus has a vector processing unit providing a plurality M of lanes of parallel processing, within each lane the vector processing unit being configured to perform a processing operation on a data element input to that lane for each of one or more input operands. A vector instruction is received that is specified by a group of the execution threads, that vector instruction identifying an associated processing operation and also providing an indication of the data elements of each input operand that are to be subjected to that associated processing operation. Vector merge circuitry then determines, based on that information, a required number of lanes of parallel processing for performing the associated processing operation. If it is determined that the required number of lanes is less than or equal to half the available number of lanes within the vector processing unit, then the vector merge circuitry allocates a plurality of the execution threads of the group to the vector processing unit such that each execution thread in that plurality is allocated different lanes amongst the available lanes of parallel processing. As a result, the vector processing unit then performs the associated processing operation in parallel for each of the plurality of execution threads, significantly increasing performance.
