Two vertically offset thermistors for sensing a fluid such as oil and refrigerant in a compressor shell are monitored by a method that takes into account rapidly changing conditions within the shell. The system can determine the fluid's sump temperature, high/low liquid levels, and can determine whether the thermistors are sensing the fluid as a liquid, gas, or a mixture of the two, such as a foam or mist of liquid and gas. For greater accuracy, thermistor readings can be dithered and filtered to provide temperature or voltage values having more significant digits than the readings originally processed through a limited-bit A/D converter. For faster response, limited microprocessor time is conserved by sampling thermistor readings at strategic periods that enable the microprocessor to identify certain conditions and temperatures via simple delta-temperature ratios and undemanding equations rather than resorting to exponential functions or lookup tables to determine time constants.

An image data signal value conversion is performed such that the volume of ink applied to image areas on a print medium to be printed by the overlapping portions of the printing element substrates is smaller than that applied to image areas on the print medium to be printed by portions other than the overlapping portions. Alternatively, the image data signal value conversion is performed such that the volume of ink applied to overlapping areas on the print medium to be printed by two consecutive printing main scans is smaller than that applied to areas other than the overlapping areas. Techniques for handling dependency conditions, including evil twin conditions, are disclosed herein. An instruction may designate a source register comprising two portions. The source register may be a double-precision register and its two portions may be single-precision portions, each specified as destinations by two other single-precision instructions. Execution of these two single-precision instructions, especially on a register renaming machine, may result in the appropriate values for the two portions of the source register being stored in different physical locations, which can complicate execution of an instruction stream. In response to detecting a potential dependency, one or more instructions may be inserted in an instruction stream to enable the appropriate values to be stored within one physical double precision register, eliminating an actual or potential evil twin dependency. Embodiments including a compiler that inserts instructions in a generated instruction stream to eliminate dependency conditions are also contemplated.

An apparatus and method for dynamically modifying one or more operating conditions of a memory controller in an electronic device. Operating conditions may comprise clock frequency and power, which may be modified or removed. Dynamic modification of operating conditions may be done for purposes of optimizing a parameter, such as power consumption. A mode, referred to as idle mode, may be used as a transitional or operational mode for the memory controller. The performance of the memory controller may dynamically vary in response to changes in its operating conditions. As such, the memory controller may comprise multiple modes, or submodes, of operation. The performance of the memory controller may depend on the type of memory it controls, for instance Double Data Rate (DDR) Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM).

A computer in a disk node executes a data management program. A deduplication-eligible data unit detection module detects a data unit whose deduplication grace period after last write time has expired. A deduplication address fetch module interacts with an index server to obtain a deduplication address associated with a unique value of data stored in a constituent storage space allocated to the data unit that is found to be deduplication-eligible. A constituent storage space deallocation module stores the obtained deduplication address in a data unit record memory, together with information indicating the detected data unit. Simultaneously a constituent storage space deallocation module releases the allocated constituent storage space from the detected data unit.

A virtual data storage system stores data as data objects to a plurality of storage devices in accordance with storage management policies. Storage pools define groups of medial that are to be treated in a uniform manner. A policy is composed of a series of policy copy/delete rules that direct movement of data objects into the storage pools. Copy and delete actions are preformed to manage copies of data objects among the storage pools in accordance with the policy. As an extension of the storage management policies, the process of creating export media sets is automated. These processes can also be used to create backup media. When an export media set is created, subsequent commands are prevented from modifying the media in the export media set. When a backup is created, subsequent commands are prevented from overwriting media containing data referred to by the manifest media for the backup.

Host input/output (I/O) operations are performed via a file stored in a non-volatile storage coupled to a storage controller while data structures are being generated in the storage controller to copy data from source logical volumes to target logical volumes. The source logical volumes and the target logical volumes are logical representations of physical storage maintained in a plurality of direct access storage devices. The contents of the file are transferred from the non-volatile storage to one or more of the plurality of direct access storage devices, after the data structures have been generated, wherein the host I/O operations are performed via the file while the contents of the file are being transferred to the one or more of the plurality of direct access storage devices. The host I/O operations to the plurality of direct access storage devices are resumed, in response to transferring entire contents of the file to the one or more of the plurality of direct access storage devices.

A method, system, and computer program product provide a shared virtual memory space via a cluster-aware virtual input/output (I/O) server (VIOS). The VIOS receives a paging file request from a first LPAR and thin-provisions a logical unit (LU) within the virtual memory space as a shared paging file of the same storage amount as the minimum required capacity. The VIOS also autonomously maintains a logical redundancy LU (redundant LU) as a real-time copy of the provisioned/allocated LU, where the redundant LU is a dynamic copy of the allocated LU that is autonomously updated responsive to any changes within the allocated LU. Responsive to a second VIOS attempting to read a LU currently utilized by a first VIOS, the read request is autonomously redirected to the logical redundancy LU. The redundant LU can be utilized to facilitate migration of a client LPAR to a different computing electronic complex (CEC).
